TUDOR – Pelagos LHD

UDORPELAGOS LHD Titanium NEW

INTRODUCING TUDOR PELAGOS LHD

The TUDOR Pelagos technica diver's watch is now available in a “left-handed” version. Equipped with TUDOR manufacture movement and featuring a black dial and black bezel, each model is numbered.

In a nod to its past, TUDOR is now offering the Pelagos model in a “left-handed” version, with its winding stem on the left of the middle case so that it can be worn on the right wrist. TUDOR had already produced watches of this type at the specific request of diving professionals, for example for the French Navy.

Divers’ watches, intended to be worn specifically on the right wrist, require specific ergonomic characteristics. Before the advent of this watch, left -handed divers could be seen wearing their watch turned upside down on their right wrist and were only able to use the minutes elapsed calculating function, leaving the dominant hand free to access the winder. The introduction of this new model into the Pelagos line, named LHD for Le Hand Drive, means that TUDOR is able to offer a complete range of technical divers’ watches at the same time as bringing a little-known part of its product development history to light.

NUMBERED SERIES

In keeping with the finest traditions of giving tool- watches dedicated reference numbers, Pelagos LHD is produced as a numbered series.

Each model has a unique production number engraved in large Arabic numerals on the case back. This is a first for TUDOR.

A NEW DIAL

The dial of this new Pelagos watch has been reworked with beige luminescent markings and the name “PELAGOS” in red at 6 o’clock. The calendar disc, in beige too, also comes in a new design, with its numbers displayed in alternate colours: the even days are displayed in red and the odd in black.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO

This aesthetic detail, nicknamed “roulette” by collectors, was especially characteristic of TUDOR divers’ watches with its dial and “snowflakes” hands that first appeared in reference 7021 in 1969. In the same vein, the unidirectional rotatable bezel in ceramic has beige luminescent markings to match those of the dial.

TUDOR MT5612-LHD MANUFACTURE MOVEMENT
WITH WINDING STEM ON THE LEFT

This is a specific variant of the TUDOR manufactured movement developed for the Pelagos LHD model. Displaying hours, minutes and seconds functions, it bears the reference MT5612-LHD, where “MT” stands for “Mouvement TUDOR”. In 2015, TUDOR announced its first mechanical movement to have been developed, manufactured and assembled in-house.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO

A high-performance calibre of superb precision and proven robustness, it offers a 70-hour power reserve, meaning that the wearer can, for example, take o the watch on Friday evening and put it on again on Monday morning without having to rewind it.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   FOTO

Beating to a frequency of 28,800 beats/ hour or 4 Hz, it is regulated by a variable inertia oscillator with a silicon balance spring and held in place by a traversing bridge, a guarantee of its robustness. Furthermore, it is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) in positions in which it is worn with the winding stem on the left.

PATENTED SELF-ADJUSTING BUCKLE

The Pelagos model is also characterised by its titanium bracelet with a steel folding clasp equipped with a sprung self-adjustment mechanism developed and patented by TUDOR.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO

This ingenious system enables the automatic adjustment of the bracelet when diving, by contracting when the diving suit is subjected to compression at depth, thus reducing thickness and, conversely, by expanding when the pressure lessens as the diver comes back up again.
Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO

An additional black rubber strap with an extension link so that the watch can be worn with all types of diving suit is also included.

CASED IN TITANIUM

Titanium’s natural qualities explain its choice for the case and bracelet of the TUDOR Pelagos. Light and only 60% of the weight of stainless steel for the same volume, it is also very resistant to the corrosion caused by seawater.

The matt appearance of its entirely satin finish, its technological overtones and its colour all serve as an excellent means of communicating the technical vocation of this watch in terms of its design.

Like its case and bracelet, the TUDOR MT5612 movement with which the TUDOR Pelagos is equipped also has matt finishings – sand-blasted, machine-tooled or with a sunray finish suggestive of robustness, precision, reliability and a high level of technological expertise.

WATERPROOF TO 500 METRES (1,640 FT) WITH AUTOMATIC
HELIUM ESCAPE VALVE

The waterproofness of the Pelagos model is guaranteed up to 500 metres (1,640 ft) and has been systematically tested to 125% of its capacity, that is, to 625 metres (2,050 ). This extreme waterproofness is coupled with an automatic helium escape valve, an indispensable device designed to safeguard the watch during “saturation” dives.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO
This diving technique involves saturating the bodies of divers with a mixture of helium and oxygen gases, enabling them to alternate periods of underwater activity with periods of rest in a hyperbaric chamber so as to avoid very long phases of decompression during the dive.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO

The helium atom is the smallest gas particle in existence. It manages over time to penetrate the inside of a watch in spite of its waterproofness. In this case, the automatic helium escape valve enables the helium gas to escape from the watch freely during the decompression phase – much shorter than the immersion – without damaging it during the dive.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO

Without this type of system, the excessive pressure created inside the watch by the presence of a large number of helium atoms would cause it to explode during decompression.

TUDOR – HERITAGE Black Bay BRONZE

TUDOR HERITAGE Black Bay BRONZE NEW

The Heritage Black Bay family welcomes the new Heritage Black Bay Bronze model, a 43 mm divers' watch inspired by the brand's history and fitted with a mechanical movement developed, manufactured and assembled by TUDOR.

The characteristic elements of the new Heritage Black Bay Bronze model's personality have been drawn from TUDOR’s history. It inherits the general lines, as well as the dial and domed crystal, from the very first TUDOR diving watches. It features the particularly prominent winding crown from the famous 7924 reference of 1958, known as Big Crown.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

It borrows the characteristic angular hands, known as snowflake, from the watches delivered in large quantities to the French National Navy in the 1970s. The drilled holes on the side of the lugs and their particularly pronounced chamfering can be added to the list of notable historic design elements adopted in this new model.

AN ALUMINIUM BRONZE ALLOY CASE

The characteristic element of the Heritage Black Bay Bronze is an imposing bronze case, 43 mm in diameter, which is an aesthetic reference to the use of bronze in historic ships and other diving equipment. The choice of this metal, a high performance aluminium bronze alloy, guarantees the development of a subtle and unique patina to match its user's habits. In addition to a highly functional appearance in line with the world to which it pays tribute, the Heritage Black Bay Bronze has entirely brushed finishes that guarantee a homogeneous development of the patina.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

A combination of chocolate brown dial and bezel – a first for TUDOR – with golden and beige accents, completes the model's look. The visual effect is that of a patinated object that could have battled the waves on its owner's wrist for many years, and seems to have been fashioned by him and his lifestyle.

THE TUDOR MT5601
MANUFACTURE MOVEMENT

The Tudor MT5601 Manufacture Movement was developed specifically to equip the Heritage Black Bay Bronze model. Slightly larger in diameter and displaying hours, minutes and seconds functions, it bears the reference MT5601, in which “MT” stands for “Mouvement TUDOR”.

In 2015, TUDOR announced the first mechanical movement in its history to have been developed, manufactured and assembled inhouse. A high performance calibre of excellent precision and proven robustness, it offers a 70hour power reserve.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

Beating to a frequency of 28,800 beats/hour or 4Hz, the movement is regulated by a variable inertia oscillator with silicon balance spring, held in place by a traversing bridge – a guarantee of its robustness. Furthermore, the movement is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

AN HISTORIC STRAP

TUDOR has identified the historic uses of its watches and reinterpreted them in its latest models. For example, the French Navy had TUDOR watches delivered without bracelets and then fitted them with their own straps, handmade or otherwise. One of them, found on a period watch, is made of elastic recovered from a French rescue parachute.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

It is from this ultrafunctional relic, recognisable by its central yellow thread that the beige and brown woven jacquard strap fitted to the Heritage Black Bay Bronze descends. In line with the characteristics of the Heritage line, it is accompanied also by an aged brown leather strap whose angled cut accentuates a rustic effect.

THE TUDOR DIVERS' WATCH

The history of the TUDOR divers' watch dates back to 1954 and the launch of reference 7922. The first in a long line of ergonomic, legible, accurate and robust divers' watches, it perfectly embodies the approach formulated by the American architect Louis Sullivan, according to whom the form of an object must follow its function. Furthermore, it laid down the aesthetic and technical foundations of an ideal divers' watch, those of an understated, functional and reliable tool.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

The sixty years that followed the launch of the original 7922 saw the constant improvement of the TUDOR divers' watch and each model gained unanimous acclaim from professionals in the field, including some of the greatest military navies in the world. It is this relationship with these navies which evokes ideas of travel and adventure that the Heritage Black Bay Bronze celebrates.

THE HERITAGE LINE

A key characteristic of the TUDOR Heritage line is the unique creative process that began in 2010 with the presentation of the TUDOR Heritage Chrono model, a free interpretation of the brand's first chronograph dating from 1970. Since then, some of the most im portant references in the history of TUDOR have been reworked within the Heritage line. Far from simply being an identical rerelease of a classic, the models in this line bring together the past, present and future, with the aesthetic codes that contribut ed to the reputation of historic models preserved and instilled into contemporary timepieces. The new Heritage Black Bay Bronze adopts this approach, offering a new reading of the history of the TUDOR divers' watch.

TUDOR – HERITAGE Advisor Titanium

TUDOR HERITAGE Advisor Cognac Dial Titanium NEW

The Heritage Advisor, with its automatic alarm function, is a reinterpretation of the brand’s 1957 classic, and this year features a new combination of cognac-coloured dial and strap.

The Heritage Advisor is a reinterpretation of the famous TUDOR alarm watch from 1957. An up-to-date version of this classic, it retains its original shape and proportions of its case, lugs, and glass, its dauphine hands and bevelled markers, as well as the design and colour of its red alarm hand.

The case, made from titanium, which provides optimum sound quality for the alarm, has been increased from 34 mm to 42 mm in keeping with modern tastes.

COGNAC DIAL

The Heritage Advisor’s dial design is particularly intricate, with no less than five distinct elements. Decorated in a number of different ways, the various finishes contrast with one another to create a textural richness and stunning reflections.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

Although the overall tone is cognac, the centre of the dial is opaline, the calendar counter circular, the minute track, has a sunburst satin finish, while the outer flange and alarm power-reserve indicator disk have been sandblasted.

ALARM MODULE DEVELOPED BY TUDOR

The movement of the Heritage Advisor is equipped with an extra mechanical module which provides an alarm function. Developed in-house by TUDOR, it boasts perfect sound clarity, both clear and consistent. It also features an alarm power-reserve indicator shown on the dial by a disk at 3 o’clock, as well as an ON/OFF display at 9 o’clock, engaged by a pusher at 8 o’clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

In addition to the hour, minutes and seconds, the movement also indicates the date on a counter at 6 o’clock. The winding crown at 2 o’clock, engraved with the name ADVISOR, sets the alarm time. The winding crown, adorned with the TUDOR rose and positioned at 4 o’clock is used to set the time and change the date.

DELIVERED WITH TWO STRAPS

The Heritage Advisor model comes with a choice of a steel bracelet or a cognac-coloured alligator strap with a folding clasp, each accompanied by an extra black silk strap edged in satin, reminiscent of the decoration on the trousers of a tuxedo.

Made  using the Jacquard technique according to traditional methods by a hundred-year-old family business from the St-Etienne region of France, this strap is a signature feature of TUDOR’s Heritage line.

TUDOR – Fastrider Black Shield Chronograph

TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield Chronograph NEW

Tudor Fastrider Black Shield

Directly inspired by the distinctive sporting elegance of the new Ducati XDiavel, TUDOR launches a new matt black and white version of the Fastrider Black Shield, its self-winding monobloc high-tech ceramic chronograph.

Fastrider was originally created in 2011 to mark the partnership between TUDOR and Ducati, becoming the technical and sporty TUDOR line dedicated to the world of performance motorbikes. In 2013, with the Fastrider Black Shield chronograph and its matt black monobloc ceramic middle case, TUDOR presented the result of a cross-disciplinary approach to design, connecting the world of sports motorbikes to that of fine watchmaking. The collaboration also extended to the customization of a Ducati Diavel using the same design language.

In 2015, a new Ducati – the XDiavel – has inspired TUDOR to create a new edition of its all-ceramic chronograph. With the impressively XDiavel motorbike calling for a relaxed, feet-forward riding position, Ducati enters the cruiser category.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

This generally comprises models with large displacement engines, often serving as the basis for customized versions in motorbike culture and exuding an unmistakable aura of great strength and inimitable style. The XDiavel is all that in a total black look, along with that little extra touch of elegance that only the legendary Italian manufacturer could give.

SPORTING ELEGANCE

Sporting elegance, powerful lines and functionality are also the keynote characteristics of the new TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield. As well as ensuring seamless versatility from road to board room, the white on black contrast inspired by the XDiavel also guarantees excellent legibility. With its matt black dial punctuated by white hour-markers and numerals, a white luminescent material, a white chronograph seconds hand, white chronograph totalizer and small-seconds hands, this chronograph enables at-a-glance readings that are ideal when at the controls of a powerful motorcycle.

Waterproof to 150 meters and virtually scratch-proof, the monolithic high-tech ceramic case of the new TUDOR Fastrider chronograph expresses technicality, performance and power by its all-matt look and its taut lines. Its angular yet sculpted contours echo the streamlined body-work of a superbike. Its production based on ultra-high-temperature injection processes stems from industry-leading technological expertise and represents a unique performance for a watch in this price segment.

Its mechanical self-winding movement offers a power reserve of approximately 46-hours and a fast-adjustment calendar function displayed through an aperture between at 4.30.

Fitted with a matt black leather strap with white stitching, this new TUDOR Fastrider model is also available with a matt black rubber strap further reinforcing the watch’s technical and sporty DNA.

TUDOR AND TECHNOLOGY

The TUDOR collection is steadily building, based on its two main pillars: heritage and technology. TUDOR watches feature a subtle blend of references to the brand’s history alongside contemporary touches skilfully combined in varying proportions according to the pillar to which they belong.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

In keeping with this spirit and consistently driven by an experimental attitude to materials and innovation, the technology models include the sporty TUDOR North Flag, Pelagos, Fastrider and Grantour lines.

Each features a shared aesthetic vocabulary most vividly embodied in the all-matt finish, brushed middle cases, sandblasted details, and matt colours: this deliberate choice induces a vision of the object based on contrasting volumes rather than reflecting light, meaning a sculptural, form-based language as opposed to a more decorative approach.
