TUDOR – Black Bay “BLACK”

TUDORHERITAGE Black Bay BLACKNEW

TUDOR unveils a new version of its emblematic Heritage Black Bay divers’ watch. Presented for the first time in 2012 and one of the winners at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève the following year, this model now comes in three versions – burgundy red, blue and black –, celebrating over 60 years of divers’ watches with extraordinary destinies.

The Heritage line by TUDOR is distinguished by the unique creative process of the brand’s Style Workshop as well as an exceptional attention to detail. Since 2010 and the presentation of the TUDOR Heritage Chrono, TUDOR has reinterpreted some of the key models in its history.

The very opposite of a mere reedition, a Heritage product is the powerful result of a true temporal and stylistic encounter of past, present and future. The aesthetic codes that contributed to the renown of the historic models are preserved and injected with modern touches to update its iconic status.

After winning the ‘Revival’ prize at the e for the first version of the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay model, this approach has become one 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genèv of TUDOR’s defining hallmarks.

The model derives its overall lines and its domed crystal from the brand’s first divers’ watch, the TUDOR Submariner reference 7922, launched in 1954. The character of its dome-shaped dial, a detail common to the first TUDOR Submariner, is also drawn from this model.

TUDOR OYSTER SUBMARINER Ref. 7923 (1955)
=================================

The imposing winding crown is a nod to a model presented in 1958 with the reference number 7924 and nicknamed “Big Crown” by collectors. Its characteristic angular hands, known by connoisseurs as “snowflakes”, were seen from 1969 to the early 1980s.

These multiple references to the brand’s aesthetic heritage, combined with contemporary design elements such as the robust 41 mm steel case with a refined finish, a coloured, anodized aluminium crown tube, as well as superbly crafted interchangeable bracelets make the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay a watch with a powerful identity that vividly embodies the brand’s renewal process.

Like the models in the TUDOR Heritage line, the new Black Bay “Black” adopts this approach while at the same time forging its own identity, cleverly combining historic aesthetic elements that have not yet been reinterpreted. With its black dial, pink-gold hands and hour markers, cream- coloured luminescent material and burgundy red bezel, the original TUDOR Heritage Black Bay introduced in 2012 suggests the gentle warm patina of an antique watch. Radically different, the second model from the Black Bay family, dubbed the ‘Midnight Blue’ by the brand’s enthusiasts, presents an icy face and sharp contrasts, giving the watch the appearance of a professional, technical instrument. The new Black Bay “Black” is certainly the watch that comes closest to the pioneering spirit of TUDOR’s first divers’ watches. Combining historic patina with technology, it perfectly complements the Black Bay family. In a notable, unique visible detail, it adopts the famous red triangle of the unidirectional bezel from the TUDOR divers’ models of the late 1950s.

TUDOR – HERITAGE Black Bay ONE Only Watch 2015

TUDOR HERITAGE Black Bay ONE Only Watch 2015 NEW

For its fi rst participation in the Only Watch charity auction, TUDOR has decided to reinterpret one of the least known tool-watches in its history: reference 7923. Launched in the mid-1950s and produced in tiny quantities, this is the brand’s only divers’ watch to have been equipped with a hand-wound movement.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                BIG FOTO

It also stands out from the other divers’ watches produced by TUDOR with its baton-type hands. Highly sought after by collectors today, this rare reference was an excellent starting point for the creation of a one-o model destined for this unique initiative.

THE HERITAGE APPROACH

TUDOR’s Heritage line is characterised by a unique creative process developed by the brand’s Style Workshop, as well as by an exceptional level of attention to detail. Since 2010 and the presentation of the Heritage Chrono model, some of the most important models of its history have been reinterpreted by TUDOR. The very opposite of a mere re-edition, the watches belonging to this Heritage line are the result of a true temporal and stylistic encounter between past, present and future. The aesthetic codes that contributed to the renown of the brand’s historical models are preserved and injected with modern touches to update their iconic status. This approach has become one of TUDOR’s hallmarks and the Heritage Black Bay model was notably rewarded in this regard by the “Revival” category prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2012.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...             BIG FOTO

The TUDOR Heritage Black Bay One created for Only Watch 2015 is part of this approach, reinterpreting the reference 7923 with enlightened freedom. It borrows the glossy black of the dial from the brand’s production in the late 1950s and early 1960s, while the inscriptions and gold-coloured hands (reproduced here in a shade of yellow gold) are derived from reference 7923 itself.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...              BIG FOTO

The dial layout of the historical watch with its two lines of text at 6 o’clock has also been retained, specifying the maximum guaranteed immersion depth, in red, along with the mention “shock resisting” already present on reference 7923. Whereas the luminescent material was formerly painted directly on the dial, it is now laid in applied gold-coloured inserts ensuring improved definition. Finally, the dial of the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay One is domed, a subtle yet important detail for the experienced eye and representing another nod to mid-20th century watch design.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...              BIG FOTO

The sapphire crystal of the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay One is also domed in a particularly marked manner that is the most pronounced to date in TUDOR’s Heritage line. This characteristic is typical of the acrylic crystals used by the watch industry in the 1950s.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

The visual effect of a dial and crystal combination of this nature is truly striking, giving unique depth to the watch “face”. The latter is framed by the unidirectional rotatable bezel of the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay One, directly inspired by that of reference 7923, which does not provide minutes divisions.

CONTEMPORARY PRESENCE

Compared with the 37 mm case diameter of reference 7923, the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay One measures 41 mm, endowing the watch with a more contemporary presence on the wrist. Its taut, powerful and eminently modern lines nevertheless emulate the famous accentuated chamfers above the lugs, typical of 1950s TUDOR divers’ watches and highly appreciated by devotees of the brand. The prominent crown, with no protective shoulders in keeping with the overall lines of the model that inspired it, is mounted on an anodized aluminium tube the same colour as the bezel providing an additional touch of contemporary elegance.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

Fitted with a solid stainless steel bracelet featuring tube-type attachments, a technical term used to describe a final link which does not come into contact with the case and an additional reference to the history of product development at TUDOR, the Black Bay One also comes with two additional and unique straps: a darky brown aged leather strap, a Jacquard-weave admiralty grey fabric strap. Traditionally woven in a century-old craft company in the French region of Saint-Etienne, the historical cradle of the passementerie (trimmings) industry, this fabric strap is yet another example of the added value that TUDOR brings to its creations.

In keeping with Only Watch spirit, only one of this new model will be produced, a first for TUDOR, which as a rule produces neither limited editions nor one-off pieces.

TUDOR – Fastrider Black Shield Chronograph

TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield Chronograph

The TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield, a distillation of strength and virility matched with supreme reliability. In this spirit, and to accompany the launch of the TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield, TUDOR – in collaboration with its partner, Ducati – has customized the one-of-a-kind Diavel Carbon model with a black matt finish on the whole motorcycle and bronze highlighting on the details.

Monolithic and scratch-proof, the TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield’s monobloc case in matt black ceramic is an archetype in its genre. Not only is it fashioned using nothing but high-tech injected ceramic – not ceramic applied to another material as a coating – but it is also made entirely in one process.

The whole case is produced as a single piece – a unique operation for watches in this segment. In addition to the noble aesthetics of this chronograph, the extremely complex procedure adopted for its manufacture – a result of technological expertise acquired in perfecting the bezel for the Pelagos line – ensures that both the middle case and bezel are exceptionally reliable and resistant.

Waterproof to a depth of 150 metres (500 feet) and fitted with direct-action pushers and a screwdown crown in PVD-treated steel, the 42 mm case houses a self-winding chronograph movement with a power reserve of approximately 46 hours.

The matt finish selected for this monobloc case shows off to particular advantage the clean curves and taut lines of this chronograph. It also accentuates the watch’s dimensions and the tachymetric scale engraved on the bezel.

The strength emanating from the case is highlighted by the bronze-tinted features that punctuate the dial. A unique statement of precision and performance, this chronograph is available with either a rubber strap or a beige Alcantara® strap with black stitching.

TUDOR – Heritage Ranger

TUDOR Heritage Ranger

Inspired by a historic model, also named Ranger, which the brand produced in the late 1960s, this new model embodies the unique creative approach developed by TUDOR to showcase its heritage in 2010 with the launch of its Heritage Chrono. Far from being a mere re-edition, it is a distinct reinterpretation, a true temporal and stylistic encounter of past, present and future. The aesthetic codes that contributed to the renown of the historic models are preserved and injected with modern touches to update the iconic spirit of the models.

As on the brand’s historic models, the lugs of the TUDOR Heritage Ranger are drilled through to accommodate the strap bars. Its matt black dial bearing the TUDOR Rose logo is domed, as is the crystal – typical features of the 1950s and 1960s TUDOR models – which give it a unique retro chic look.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

The 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock hour markers on the dial are not appliques as on the other models in the Heritage line, but painted with a coloured luminous substance for a warm and appealing antique effect. Its distinctive pear-shaped hands are directly inspired by the historic TUDOR Ranger models.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

A more contemporary size than its source of inspiration, the case of the TUDOR Heritage Ranger measures 41 mm in diameter and is entirely satin-finished. This finish was chosen to express the functionality, technical prowess and robustness of an object that could have been standard equipment in the packs of sled-dog mushers readying themselves to face the most extreme conditions in the far North.

The large, satin-finished crown of the TUDOR Heritage Ranger, similar to that of the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay, is engraved with the historic TUDOR Rose logo. It screws onto a protruding satin-finished tube, which further accentuates the technical sophistication of the watch.

Four superbly crafted bracelets have been designed by TUDOR’s Style Workshop for the TUDOR Heritage Ranger. Each displaying its own strong personality, they contribute to underscoring this new model’s seamless blend into its environment.

The first is a bund strap with satin-finished rivets. Cut from light brown leather, in spirit it subtly evokes the raw leather and the equipment used by adventurers of the far North. Its steel folding clasp is also entirely satin-finished and heightens the technical aura of the strap.

The second is an adjustable and particularly comfortable fabric strap with a camouflage motif woven in green tones, chosen as an allusion to the vast forest-covered regions travelled by sled-dog teams.

The third is made of tobacco coloured leather reminiscent of sled harnesses. It is also equipped with the TUDOR folding clasp in its satin-finished version.

The fourth and last version, featuring the same clasp, is a bracelet entirely made of machined satin-finished steel.

Its distinctive shape is a nod to the bracelets with tube-type attachments used by the brand in the 1950s, a period that witnessed numerous expeditions to the world’s most remote territories.

Like the other models in the brand’s Heritage line, each TUDOR Heritage Ranger comes with a fabric strap as well as a second bracelet that may be chosen from among the three other available options.

TUDOR – Heritage Black Bay

TUDOR Heritage Black Bay NEW

TUDOR PRESS KITBASELWORLD 2014

An open book on decades of deep-water adventures, steeped in the mysterious aura of a hidden bay that gradually reveals its secrets to those who venture there, the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay is a long-lost treasure, returning to the light of day.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...   BIG FOTO

First presented in 2012 in an appealing version with warm colours, the following year it was awarded the “Revival” category prize by the jury of the 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. The TUDOR Heritage Black Bay returns in 2014 icy and sharp. This new version exalts the original purpose of the TUDOR Submariner tool-watches and their use on the wrists of divers serving in some of the world’s greatest navies.

The Heritage line by TUDOR is distinguished by the unique creative process of the brand’s Style Workshop as well as an exceptional attention to detail. The very opposite of a mere re-edition, a Heritage product is the powerful result of a true temporal and stylistic encounter of past, present and future.

The aesthetic codes that contributed to the renown of the historic models are preserved and injected with modern touches to update its iconic status. The TUDOR Heritage Black Bay embodies the pinnacle of this creative approach, since its inspiration is anchored, not in a historic model, but rather in the nearly 60 years of the brand’s emblematic divers’ watches.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                   BIG FOTO

The TUDOR Heritage Black Bay derives its overall lines and its domed crystal from the brand’s first divers’ watch, the TUDOR Submariner reference 7922, launched in 1954.  (TudorCollectorsite.blogspot.com)

It also owes to its ancestor its domed dial, a feature shared by the first TUDOR Submariner models, but which had since vanished. Its imposing winding crown is a nod to a model presented in 1958 under reference 7924 and dubbed “Big Crown” by collectors.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The 2012 TUDOR Heritage Black Bay, with its black-chocolate dial, its pink-gold hands and hour markers, its creamy luminescent material and its burgundy bezel, is reminiscent of the gentle warm patina of an antique watch. It tells of the nostalgia for objects whose appeal increases over time and plays on the charm of its attractive aura.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...   BIG FOTO

For this second version, TUDOR’s Style Workshop sought to convey through design details the intention governing the creation of the brand’s first divers’ watch: namely, to produce a technical and reliable divers’ tool-watch. The result is an antithetic and yet complementary TUDOR Heritage Black Bay, presented in cool colours accentuating this model’s inherent virtues of fine workmanship, finishing and precision.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...   BIG FOTO

While the first version radiated gentle, soft warmth, the face of the second is icy with sharp lines infusing it with a decidedly high-tech allure. Its deep-black dial strikes a cold, marked contrast with the silvery hour markers and their white luminescent material. The silver-coloured, luminescent hands feature the same contrast as they cut across the dial with surgical precision.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...   BIG FOTO

Finally, the bezel in midnight-blue, matching the colour of the crown tube, tempers the vibrancy of the steel case, while lending an aquatic and highly functional dimension that echoes the military past of certain brand references. During the second half of the 20th century, the French Navy was equipped with TUDOR divers’ watches, which were generally blue.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...   BIG FOTO

Like all models in the Heritage line, the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay comes with two bracelets or straps: an adjustable black and blue fabric strap with a sophisticated weave; and the other a choice of either a midnight-blue distressed leather strap matching the bezel, or a satin-finished and polished steel bracelet. Both come with a folding clasp.
