On July 4th 2014, RJ-Romain Jerome will introduce a new Black edition of the emblematic Liberty-DNA timepiece. Following its initial launch in 2012, this new model pays tribute to the city that never sleeps and to the Lady of independence.

This original collection is the fruit of a collaboration between RJ-Romain Jerome, The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation and The Gold Leaf Corporation. This year, the brand releases a new model celebrating the 127th year of the dedication of Miss Liberty. The result is a unique creation complete with a black PVD-coated bronze bezel, echoing the true nature of The Statue of Liberty.
Found in the harbour off the coast of New York City, her charismatic figure shines at night, basking in the glimmering lights of the big city. It is with this vision in mind that the brand has chosen to introduce the Liberty-DNA Black as a tribute to the “City That Never Sleeps”.

Loyal to Bartholdi’s original design, the vision of “Liberty Enlightening the World” shines through in each detail of the watch. Housed in a 46mm black PVD-coated steel case, the bezel of the timepiece has been designed to perfectly sit over and protect the dial, as if it was wearing Miss Liberty’s famous crown. The spikes of the crown, thought to represent our planet’s seven continents, are illustrated here as time indicators, replacing the numerals on the dial and allowing the tips of the hands to appear through the crown’s “windows”. The famous dial composed of copper from the Statue of Liberty1 is now available in light grey and has been oxidized to recall the statue’s famous aesthetic.

 The RJ logo is delicately applied at 12 o’clock. The facetted and polished hour and minute hands have been blackened to highlight the sharp appearance of this unique timepiece. The case is held by four paws in black PVD-coated steel creating RJ-Romain Jerome’s signature X, found across each dial of the brand’s watch collections. A medallion on each case back of the collection shows the flame of freedom lighting up the stars of the American flag with the number of each limited edition delicately engraved. The black hornback strap creates the perfect finish to this symbolic timepiece that will inspire generations to come and remind them of the willpower of their great ancestors.
The black Liberty-DNA is limited to 125 pieces as a nod to its big sister, the original Liberty-DNA model that celebrated Miss Liberty’s 125th Anniversary in 2012.

This exciting collaboration has brought RJ-Romain Jerome’s watchmaking expertise together with the history of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation to both showcase Swiss artisanal know-how as well as to perpetuate the notion that “Liberty Enlightens the World” for future generations.

RJ-Romain Jerome unveils a new timepiece in collaboration with HardNine Choppers, a Swiss based custom motorbike manufacturer. This exciting new project is not only a partnership between two driven personalities, but also a truly spirited encounter of two visionaries with the same artistic mission.

Two worlds separate Manuel Emch, CEO of RJ-Romain Jerome, and Danny Schneider, world-class awarded custom motorbike builder. However, their common passion for design and machinery has allowed them to create an artistic package containing a subtly luxurious and unique timepiece as well as a one of a kind motorbike under one common denominator: H9C-DNA.

Sold only in a pair, these two unique pieces share common design traits such as purple metal flake paintings, golden components, perforated leather and skulls which are strong biker symbols.
The first part of this incredible custom set is the H9C-DNA timepiece. Housed in a see through 44 mm black PVD-coated steel case, the watch features a red gold bezel with matching hour and minute hands. The generous yet refined case nests a complex five layered skeleton movement that highlights the angled bridges recalling the intricate structure of a V-Twin motor.

Immensely eye-catching, the skeletonised Skull has been delicately applied on the dial, and hand painted in a unique purple metal flake colour allowing the barrel to be seen through H9C’s skull logo depicted on its forehead while the balance wheel is discreetly tucked under gridded teeth. As you know, the Devil hides in the details... even the lugs have been hollowed to lighten the watch and hide a unique case closing system with fewer visible screws.

Additionally, a perforated “guidoline” leather strap has been custom made for this unique timepiece recalling the motorcycle’s custom made handlebars.

The second part of this creative package is HardNine Chopper’s latest customisation: a WLC 1943 Harley Davidson 750cc that was originally owned by the Canadian Army. This mechanical piece of art has been entirely reworked by Danny Schneider during a 6 months customization process which consisted of the manual reshaping of the fenders, gas and oil tanks, the front fork, the exhaust pipe and the reconditioning of the original motor.

This rumbling motorbike has also been beautifully hand painted in a purple metal flake colour highlighted by hand drawn pinstripes that have been placed on both sides of the gas tank, fenders and front fork.

Like RJ-Romain Jerome’s timepieces, each detail has been thoroughly thought through to transform this historical object into a unique piece of Contemporary Art. For example, the steering column is subtly decorated, South Park’s famous “Cartman” figurine is used to manually change the bikes’ gears and the name of the hard rock group “Slayer” is cut-out on the grip of the right footstool. Additionally, the lettering “L.A” and the number “9” are hand painted on the visible parts of the motor.
But guess what... This unique set has already been sold ! However not to worry, RJ-Romain Jerome has created a limited edition of nine H9C-DNA timepieces featuring a mirror polished H9C skull on the dial, keeping the intrinsic design of the original watch in a black PVD-coated steel case.
Once again, RJ-Romain Jerome celebrates creative minds through its collaborations and has additionally discovered a fascinating world through the eyes and masterful hands of Danny Schneider. About Danny Schneider

Danny Schneider is the owner and founder of HardNine Choppers, a custom motorcycle garage in Switzerland. He launched his company in 2002 after a severe FMX accident that put an unexpected end to his career.
He was known to be one of the pioneers in Swiss FMX and has now established himself as a one-of-a-kind custom motorcycle builder. Following his injuries, Danny Schneider chose to radically change professional paths and learnt how to weld and manually build motorbikes. At first this hard working young entrepreneur created bikes for the simple pleasure of building and riding them.
However Danny had his first break when he built the D’MX bike that attracted over 21 international major bike magazines and gave him a pass to all the major shows, such as the “AMD World Championship of Bike Building”, where he finished 3rd in the modified Harley category, as well as the “Artistry of Iron Master builders Championship”. He was also the first European bike builder to ever be invited as a special guest to the “Yokohama Mooneyes Show” in Japan.
Following his growing success, Roja-Film Production Company released a 90 minute documentary about the creation of the D´MX and Danny’s trip to Japan. The documentary was shown in movie theaters all over Switzerland and in parts of Europe.
Over the past years Danny has built many exceptional pieces which have become even more successful than the original D´MX. After travelling all year around the globe and attending all the international bike shows, Danny still finds the time to ride his bikes and has also recently been spotted riding a dirt bike again !

Steampunk Auto Colours : RJ-Romain Jerome pops out in colour !

Getting ready for summer is on everyone’s mind... So why not add some colour to your wrist ? RJ-Romain Jerome introduces its new Steampunk timepiece that plays with the contrast of light and dark, bringing new colours that will brighten your upcoming summer days.

RJ-Romain Jerome launches new colourful timepieces for the automatic edition of the Steampunk collection. Inspired by the original iconoclastic timepiece, the new model plays with the brands signature aesthetic codes combined with a retro-futuristic design. Housed in a black PVD-coated steel 50 mm case, the movement has been striped down to provide an unobstructed view of the sturdy, circular graining and rigorously beadblasted blackened bridges. Inspired by Steampunk, the surface of the indexes has been hand-worked directly on the movement’s bridges, creating the unique RJ-Romain Jerome “rough” finish.

The Roman XII and VI numerals, the logo and the hexagonal crown have been coloured in yellow, white, red, blue, green and orange depending on the model. Each piece showcases a mysterious sense of depth by creating a contrast between the blackened face of the watch and the colourful elements. The colour of the watch is made even more striking thanks to a black alligator leather strap, adorned with matching coloured stitching. Every detail from these Swiss Made timepieces, takes you back to the metallic and blackened engine rooms of the industrial revolution which inspired the Steampunk aesthetic. The automatic movement has a power reserve of 42 hours, which winds the propeller shaped second hand at 9 o’clock – reminding us of the majestic propellers of the transatlantic ships from the 20th Century.

The hour and minute hands have also been designed in the shape of anchors. The satin finished bezel is coated in black PVD, drawing your eyes to the surface of the movement that is held in place by four screwed-down pistons with visible springs, symbolising RJ-Romain Jerome’s signature “X” motif.

On April 14th  2010, the Eyjafjallajökull Icelandic volcano erupted causing the European airspace to shut down for a period of six days. This historical event marked the minds of millions of people and inspired RJ-Romain Jerome to create the Eyjafjallajökull-DNA timepiece belonging to the “Earth” collection.

Conveying memories of fire and lava, swept over by powerful images of dust and winds, the Eyjafjallajökull-DNA timepiece is a true testament to Mother Earth’s temper and man’s timeless respect when faced with her strength.

Celebrating the fourth anniversary of the eruption, RJ-Romain Jerome introduces the Eyjafjallajökull Evo timepiece inspired by the original legend. With a new retro, vintage look, the watch has evolved with a 43mm black PVDcoated steel case designed by Daniel Haas.

The eruption has been immortalised with lava stone used as the base of the dial. The tips of the minute and hour hands mirror the grounded aircrafts whilst lava seems to be seeping through the dial with a beautifully hand drawn volcanic fissure in cold enamel.

This exquisite handcrafted dial is highlighted by a black alligator strap, allowing the wearer to appreciate the chaotic scene unfolding on his wrist.

Witnesses suggest that the intergalactic timepiece has endured an aesthetic change during its entry into our atmosphere. This process has reportedly darkened the case of the watch and given it an enigmatic black PVD finish with a new name: the Moon Orbiter Speed Metal.

Allowing the wearer to see the heart of the watch, RJ-Romain Jerome has designed a case with five perfectly fitted shaped sapphire crystals. This conceptual design gives a complete view of the unique architecture and geometry of the three-dimensional flying tourbillon which is placed at 9 o’clock. The mechanical self-winding movement is highlighted by a glass opening on the case-back allowing the understated sharpness of the oscillating weight to be visible. In honour of all sci-fi generations, the brand has designed a flying tourbillon recalling Star Trek’s famous “Enterprise” space vessel: with its main bridges connecting to the circular Starships’ center of command.

The new black-PVD case beholds many surprising elements such as Moon dust on the dial of the watch. The hours and minutes are read-off an off-centred 3 o’clock counter. The open-worked hands are red-lacquered matching the 42-hour power reserve cursor which is displayed on a separate sub dial between the lugs at 6 o’clock.

Fascinating space tales have also been encoded onto the dial of the watch in the shape of various constellation motifs telling their story between the upper lugs at 12 o’clock. One of the most impressive features of the watch is the Moon Orbiter’s lugs. The articulated lugs are composed of an exclusive mechanical jack system that is primarily found in motorbikes. This new patented and innovative system ensures the wearers’ comfort whatever his wrist size.

RJ-Romain Jerome celebrates "Orbital" accomplishments


Fascinated by our Universe and man’s accomplishments, RJ-Romain Jerome re-interprets contemporary history through the design of a new and aesthetically advanced timepiece, the Skylab.

The infinity of space has intrigued mankind for centuries. When Magellan established the spherical shape of our planet or when Galileo, the father of modern observational astronomy, discovered Heliocentrism*, the reality of space changed the vision of contemporary dreamers.

In honour of these discoveries, the iconoclastic brand has imagined a new timepiece with an avant-garde design that features RJ-Romain Jerome’s first skeleton timepiece, the Skylab.

Named after NASA’s first space station and celebrating the 40th anniversary of its launch, RJ-Romain Jerome has designed its Skylab featuring a skeleton structure housed in a 44 mm case that recalls the original space station and its revolutionary construction by combining sleek lines and a complex system of solar panels.

The generous yet refined case nests a complex five layered skeleton giving place to one’s imagination : every single component of the movement looks like it is floating in space carefully held by angled bridges that recall the geometrical patterns of a computer mother board. At the same time, the transparent sapphire glass at the back enhances the sense of zero gravity highlighting the single barrel at 12 o’clock and revealing the balance wheel at 6 o’clock while the RJ-Romain Jerome’s monogram subtly appears at 3 o’clock on the inferior level.

Externally, the timepieces’ paws have been enlarged to enhance this new model while the lugs have been hollowed to lighten the watch and create a unique case closing system with fewer visible screws than on a regular timepiece.

By enabling the main parts of the movement to be seen, the architecture of the skeleton shines in anthracite or represents the infinity of space in black PVD coated-steel, both declinations are finished with a hand drawn stroke. True to the DNA of the brand each watch contains material from Apollo 11 mission on the bezel. Also available in 5N Rose Gold, the Skylab timepieces echo the brightness of a stellar system seen from a porthole.
