PATEK PHILIPPE Grand Complications Reference 5208T-010 Titanium 42 – Only Watch 2017

EXPERIENCE - A PATEK PHILIPPE DAY

Launched in 2011, the Reference 5208 Triple Complication wristwatch showcases Patek Philippe’s mastery in the sphere of grand complication watches. It brings together a minute repeater, a monopusher chronograph, and an instantaneous perpetual calendar displayed in apertures along an arc. This is also one of very few ultra-complicated watches endowed with a self-winding mechanism. Orchestrating this highly sophisticated combination of functions is a movement comprising 719 parts, hand-finished throughout in accordance with the great Genevan tradition.

Reference 5208T-010 was created specially for Only Watch 2017. It stands out as the first and only version of this timepiece ever produced in titanium, a metal rarely used for a Patek Philippe.

This unique piece features a blue dial adorned with a hand-guilloched carbon-fiber pattern, underlining the manufacture’s role as protector of the rare handcrafts.

Patek Philippe – World Time Watch Ref. 5230

PATEK PHILIPPE Complications World Time Watch Ref. 5230 Gold 20th Anniversary

A grand tradition totally up to date

The Patek Philippe World Time watch, also referred to as Heure Universelle by collectors, has ranked
among the manufacture's most popular complicated wristwatches for nearly eighty years. Because
some time zone designations have recently changed or were replaced with new ones, Baselworld is
the ideal platform for Patek Philippe to present the new World Time watch Ref. 5230, which is
replacing all previous models. The changes were a welcome opportunity to subtly rework the case,
dial, and hand designs as well.

It may seem simple to divide the planet into 24 time zones with 15 degrees of longitude each, but the
political process behind it is convoluted. Some time zones have meanwhile been assigned different city names, for instance Dubai instead of Riyadh or Brisbane instead of Noumea, to mention only two. Formerly, Moscow was located in the UTC+4 zone, but the Russian capital has now shifted one hour closer to Western Europe, "relocating" to UTC+3.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO

From time to time, such changes make it necessary to modify the place names on the city scales of World Time watches. This is why Patek Philippe is discontinuing the production of its legacy World Time watches and launching the new Ref. 5230 with the updated, globally valid city names.

A new design for a new world time

For Patek Philippe, this was also an ideal cue for reworking the appearance of the World Time watch, subtly retouching details to give it a truly contemporary and distinctive personality. As regards the Calatrava case of the new Ref. 5230 in white or rose gold 5N, changes were applied among others to the winglet-style lugs and the narrow, smoothly polished bezel that attractively sets the watch apart from its predecessors. The hand shapes have been given a new look as well: Instead of the venerable ringed hour hand and Dauphine minute hand, the Ref. 5230 now sports a pierced hour hand with a silhouette that evokes the famous "Southern Cross" constellation, and the minute hand features a lozenge-shaped contour. Both hands have a sharp center ridge between the carefully lapped, beveled flanks. Like the applied baton hour markers, they are crafted from 18K white or rose gold 5N to match the case.

The center for rare handcrafts

This title is deliberately ambiguous. It refers to the Patek Philippe manufacture which since it was
founded in 1839 has always been an important center for the pinnacle in decorative handcrafts as well.
Then, it also means the centers of World Time watch dials that are perfect stages for traditional forms
of craftsmanship. Patek Philippe World Time watches decorated with polychrome cloisonné enamel
maps on their dials are nothing short of legendary. The centers of other World Time watches feature
hand-guilloched decors, like the black dial center of the new Ref. 5230 with its filigreed woven pattern.
The inspiration for this guilloched basket weave motif was taken from a precious pocket watch on
display at the Patek Philippe Museum, except that its guilloché was originally coated with blue flinqué
enamel. Patek Philippe still masters these nearly extinct handcrafts because the manufacture carefully
preserves the required skills and know-how and assures that they are handed down from one
generation to the next. This also applies to the equipment. For example, the manually controlled rose
engine needed to guilloche dials is almost one hundred years old. But it has been constantly serviced
and works as reliably today as when it was first commissioned.

The watch for frequent travelers

World Time watches are more important than ever in our globally networked lives. We fly around the
globe, have online conversations with people all over the world, pursue international trade relations,
and share ideas on a worldwide scale. So it's good to know the time in the places to which we are
traveling or where people live with whom we communicate. Patek Philippe World Time watches fulfill
this function in an exemplary way: They show all 24 world time zones at a glance. The local time is
most prominently displayed for the time zone whose assigned city name is just above the small red
arrow at 12 o'clock – in the classic manner with the hour and minute hands. In the other 23 zones, the
times are directly readable on the 24-hour ring that rotates counterclockwise within the city disk. The
minutes indicated by the minute hand are the same for all time zones.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO

We owe this ingenious functionality to an invention in the 1930s by Genevan watchmaker Louis Cottier.
The mechanism was later refined and patented by Patek Philippe. When traveling into a different time
zone, the pusher in the case at 10 o'clock is pressed as often as needed to align the respective city
name with the red arrow at 12 o'clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO

Each time the pusher is pressed, the hour hand will advance by one hour while the city disk and the 24-hour ring will move by one increment in the counterclockwise direction. During this process, the time-zone mechanism is uncoupled from the movement so that the accurate progression of the minute hand and the amplitude of the balance remain unaffected. Consequently, the time in all 24 zones is always displayed with the precision specified by the directives of the Patek Philippe Seal.

Heritage in precision

The precise rate of the watch and the user-friendliness of the World Time functions are guaranteed by
the Patek Philippe manufacture caliber 240 HU – an ultra-thin self-winding mechanical movement that
wrote horological history. Despite its elaborate time-zone automatic winding mechanisms, it is a mere
3.88 mm thick, ideal for a slender, elegant World Time watch. Thanks to a design patented in 1977, the
size of the winding rotor was massively reduced, allowing it to be fully integrated into the level of the
movement bridges. Even though it is so compact, the rotor can still generate ample winding power
because it is crafted from solid 22K gold to increase its mass and torque. In the course of the years,
the movement was continually optimized and paired with a World Time mechanism.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO

It is decidedly modern, as evidenced by its patented Spiromax® balance spring. It has a power reserve of at least 48 hours, and with a tolerance of -3 to +2 seconds per day, its rate accuracy exceeds all customary chronometer standards. The finissage of the watch fully complies with all requirements of the Patek Philippe Seal. The bridges are chamfered and decorated with Geneva striping. The gold mini-rotor has the same striping alongside an engraving of the Calatrava cross, the manufacture's emblem. The plate is hand-decorated with perlage, and the golden brass wheels are countersunk and have chamfered spokes. These accents are complemented with the gold-filled movement engravings on the rhodiumed bridges and the sparkling highlights of 10 of the 35 ruby jewels. With the new Patek Philippe World Time watch Ref. 5230, the beautiful craftsmanship can be admired through the sapphire-crystal case
back.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO

The new Ref. 5230 replaces all previous models of the manufacture's World Time range and is
available in two versions: as the Ref. 5230R in 18K rose gold and as the Ref. 5230G in 18K white gold.
Both have the same dial with a white city disk, a 24-hour ring with day/night color segments and
sun/moon symbols, as well as a black center with an elaborate, hand-guilloched basket weave pattern.
The only differences are the applied hour markers and the hands, which are made of the same 18K
gold as the case. Both versions are worn on a hand-stitched alligator strap with large square scales
and a Calatrava fold-over clasp. The strap is shiny black with an 18K white-gold clasp for the white-
gold model and shiny chocolate brown with an 18K rose-gold clasp for the rose-gold model.

Patek Philippe – Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300 White Gold

PATEK PHILIPPE Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300 White Gold 175th Anniversary Limited Edition NEW
Patek Philippe, Geneva
Baselworld 2016

When grand complications become everyday challenges

With a totally novel and distinctive appearance, the highly complex new Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300
constitutes a genuine changing of the guard. For 15 years, the Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 6200 was the
most complicated wristwatch regularly produced by Patek Philippe. Now, it is ceding this rank to the
Ref. 6300: With 20 complications, among them five chiming functions, and a double-face case with a
patented reversing mechanism, it is one of the most complicated wristwatches of our era and with
certainty also the world's greatest mechanical strikework marvel for the wrist.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO
In October 2014, on the occasion of the manufacture's 175th anniversary, Patek Philippe presented a
suite of limited-edition commemorative timepieces. The most spectacular one was the Grandmaster
Chime Ref. 5175. As the manufacture's first wristwatch with a Grande and a Petite Sonnerie, it was
crafted in a limited edition of seven pieces, each one with a gold case decorated with stunning,
manually executed engravings on all sides. Six of these watches were sold to collectors and
aficionados, and the seventh one can soon be admired at the Patek Philippe Museum.

However, to keep its inner cosmos – the caliber GS AL 36-750 QIS FUS IRM – alive, it will henceforth strike the time, the date, and a settable alarm in the Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300. With a new and distinctive design, it is the most complicated and also the first wristwatch with a Grande Sonnerie in the regular Patek Philippe collection. This timepiece was created to be used on a daily basis. Because
production is limited due to its extreme complexity, the Ref. 6300 will remain a rarity for all time.

Extremely complicated, very simple, and highly sonorous

The Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300 is one of the most complicated watches in the world. Not only
because of its 20 complications, but also because of the nature of its horological challenges, among
them six patented innovations. Moreover, it is a double-face wristwatch that can be worn with either
dial facing up: the one that focuses on the time and the sonnerie, and the other that is dedicated to the
full instantaneous perpetual calendar. Reversing the face is very convenient thanks to an ingenious
mechanism between the lugs.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...              BIG FOTO

It is easy to operate and securely locks the case in the selected position.
The most important information, such as the time and the date, is displayed on both dials. User-
friendliness is guaranteed by intelligent backup mechanisms that largely prevent inadvertent
manipulations and thus reliably protect the highly complex movement with its countless tiny parts.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...              BIG FOTO

Each caliber consists of 1,366 parts and each case of 214 separate parts, bringing the total number of
components for each Grandmaster Chime to 1,580.

The sound makes the supercomplication

The array of acoustic complications includes a Grande and a Petite Sonnerie, a minute repeater, an
acoustic alarm with the indication of the preset alarm time, and a date repeater that strikes the date on
demand. The time chimes are struck on three gongs, producing a clear, voluminous, and easily
perceptible sound that has become a Patek Philippe trademark.

Grande and Petite Sonnerie

The Grande and Petite Sonnerie are functions that automatically strike the time every quarter hour: the
hour count at the top of every hour and then the hour count followed by the quarter-hour count on
every quarter (Grande Sonnerie) or just the quarter-hour count without the hours (Petite Sonnerie). A
separate double strikework spring barrel with a power reserve of 30 hours assures that these time
strikes can be executed for a whole day without requiring the watch to be rewound in shorter intervals.
Remarkably, this was accomplished even though the quarter-hours are sounded not on two but instead
on three gongs with different triple tone sequences. This requires 50 percent more energy for each
quarter-hour strike.

Minute repeater, alarm, and date repeater

The double strikework barrel also delivers the energy for the minute repeater, which on demand strikes
the hours and quarter-hours as well as the minutes that have elapsed since the last quarter-hour.
Connoisseurs automatically associate the clarity and volume of the sounds with Patek Philippe. The
alarm strikes the alarm time by reproducing the complete tone sequence of the minute repeater, with
exactly the same sound quality.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO
This is a function never before integrated in a mechanical wristwatch.
The patented date repeater is all new as well. It is triggered with a pusher in the case flank. It sounds
ten-day intervals with a double high-low strike and the remaining days with a high strike: the 23rd of a
month is indicated with a ding-dong ding-dong followed by ding-ding-ding.

Instantaneous perpetual calendar

The dial of the perpetual calendar features four subdials with analog displays grouped around the four-
digit year display in the middle. The month is indicated at 3 o'clock, the date and leap-year cycle at 6
o'clock and the day of the week at 9 o'clock. The time of day appears at 12 o'clock on the 24-hour and
60-minute subdial. With the exception of the four-digit year, the calendar displays switch
instantaneously and concurrently, so that the information for the date repeater is complete and
unambiguous even around midnight. Thanks to a patented mechanism, the four-digit year display can
easily be incremented or decremented with two correction push pieces in the case flank.

Local time and second time zone

When the crown of the watch points to the right, the owner sees the dial that indicates local time as
well as the time in a second time zone together with a day/night indication. The dial also features the
power-reserve indicators for the movement and strikework barrels, the position of the winding crown
(winding, alarm setting, handsetting), the selection of the strikework mode (Grande Sonnerie, Petite
Sonnerie, or Silence), a bell-shaped aperture for the alarm ON/OFF display and a small square window
for the strikework isolator (disabled/enabled) display. On the 24-hour dial at 12 o'clock, the desired
alarm time can be set in quarter-hour steps. The scale for the perpetual analog date at 6 o'clock frames
the moon-phase display.

A new double-face case with a hobnail design

The Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300 reveals at first sight that it is a new, distinctive creation. Its
prominent white-gold case is decorated with a manually guilloched hobnail pattern seen only rarely in
Patek Philippe's grand complication watches, even though this motif has been a trademark of the
manufacture ever since the Ref. 96D was launched in 1934. The aesthetic exterior elements, from the
mechanically elaborate case and the dials to the clasp reflect artisanal perfection and true engineering
artistry. The reversing mechanism between the lugs is a technical masterpiece in its own right; it
guarantees that the watch can be worn with either dial facing up at any time.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO

The center of the black shimmering white-gold dial is decorated with a manually guilloched hobnail
motif. The applied Breguet numerals in white gold, white printed scales, and white-gold hands assure
optimized legibility. Although with opposite contrasts, this also applies to the opaline white dial of the
perpetual calendar which groups four black subsidiary dials with black-oxidized steel hands around the
centered four-digit year display in its discreet white-gold frame.

A user-friendly detail: The push pieces in the case flank are labeled with self-explanatory engravings.
The function displays on the black dial (strikework mode, crown position, alarm mode, strikework
isolator, power reserves of movement and strikework barrels) also provide clear and well-organized
information concerning the individual functions and the selected modes of the watch. This proves that
even a mechanical supercomplication can be a “smart watch” – an intelligent, easy-to-use timepiece.
Coordinated with the black/white duality of its dials, the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300
in 18K white gold is worn on a shiny black alligator strap with large square scales and hand-stitched
contrast seams secured by an 18K white-gold fold-over clasp.
