LAURENT FERRIER – GALET Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green

LAURENT FERRIERGALET Micro-RotorMontre Ecole” British Racing Green

Laurent Ferrier is glad to participate in the London Craft Week 2018, the event showcasing exceptional and innovative British and international craftsmanship. To celebrate Britishness, Laurent Ferrier drew inspiration from his other passion alongside watchmaking: race driving.

When he was a boy, Laurent Ferrier was impressed by race cars not only for their performance but also for their design. He had a poster in his bed room featuring the Triumph Spitfire racing in Le Mans. Laurent Ferrier recalls: “To me, it was the most beautiful car ever. I wanted to drive it so badly! I was also completely devoted to its shapes and of course the color was striking.

The British racing green takes its name from the green international motor racing color of the United Kingdom used till the end of 60’s. At that time, race cars were designed and built by incredible craftsmen. The idea of creating a Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green became obvious to pay a tribute to craftsmanship in the London Craft Week.

The dial is lacquered as cars used to be. The silver sub-dial reminds of car rims. The leather strap is inspired by the bonnet straps that were very common in the 60’s. The railroad and the hour markers are a nod to speedometer. For this very special timepiece, Laurent Ferrier chooses the “School Piece” case because it offers a wider view on this exclusive dial.

On the movement side, the traditional Côte de Genève motif complements this elegant design.

The Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green cultivates this distinction by featuring three exclusive characteristics:

⦁    A micro-rotor pawl-fitted automatic winding system fixed between the main plate and the micro-rotor bridge
⦁    A silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance
⦁    A silent block shock protection system for the micro-rotor

A global approach

The harmonious construction of this Caliber FBN 229.01 stems from the global approach envisaged for each of the movement parts, from development through to realization. The technical specifications are extremely rigorous, since Laurent Ferrier refuses any compromises in this domain.

The automatic winding system was invented in the late 18th century and takes advantage of the watch wearer’s arm movements to wind the barrel spring and thus store up the energy required to run the mechanism. The device has been constantly used and enhanced ever since.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Laurent Ferrier wanted to create a movement with a micro-rotor and a comfortable power reserve.

To achieve this implied finding a system ensuring perfect winding in order to compensate for the lower inertia of a small oscillating weight. In fact a micro-rotor needs as twice as many rotations (300vs. 150) needed for one complete turn of the ratchet wheel.

The escapement with double direct impulse on the balance

This exclusive silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance is inspired by the father of modern horology, Abraham-Louis Breguet. This modern construction, associated with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises the restitution of energy. The excellent efficiency of this escapement serves to reduce the torque required to wind the mainspring and hence optimises the
movement winding.

Superlative finishing

The exceptional finishing of the movement is crafted in the finest watchmaking traditions in Laurent Ferrier’s Geneva workshops. In addition to a Côte de Genève pattern on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the flanks are hand-drawn, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

The mirror polishing done by hand on the pawl, the balance-clock and the micro-rotor bridge, as well as the guilloché motif on the 18-carat solid gold micro-rotor, give this model an entirely distinctive radiance. The sapphire crystal case-back provides a glimpse of the finesse of this workmanship and reveals harmonious architecture stemming from a clever combination of lines and curves.

The Galet Micro-Rotor “Montre Ecole” British Racing Green is fitted with a dark brown leather strap. A pin buckle matching the colour of the case sets a refined finishing touch. The case-back is snap-fastened and can be removed by the watchmaker thanks to the olivette. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 meters.

LAURENT FERRIER – Galet Annual Calendar School Piece

LAURENT FERRIERGALET Annual Calendar School Piece

Caliber 126.01

For SIHH 2018, Laurent Ferrier is glad to unveil its 5th exclusive caliber featuring an Annual Calendar function. Hosted in a new collection of timepieces, this new movement combines a convenient and user-friendly functionality with pure design and optimal visibility. Entirely designed in-house, the Galet Annual Calendar School Piece embodies all the values and spirit, Laurent Ferrier infuses in all his creations.

This new timepiece was developed with the aim of ensuring extremely smooth handling, while also ensuring visual balance, readability and performance in all circumstances – all values dear to Laurent Ferrier. With its date and month fast-adjustment by simply turning the crown forward and backward, this new timepiece offers a great experience to the wearer. For its annual calendar complication, Laurent Ferrier decided to pay a tribute to its first manual winding movement: The tourbillon double hairspring. The new caliber features a long “blade” type click ratchet which became a distinctive signature. For the first time, Laurent Ferrier will introduce a “pale” 18K yellow gold version.

A Useful Complication: Annual Calendar

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece displays the day of the week, the date and the month under consideration of months with 30 and 31 days, so the only adjustment required is once a year : on March the 1st. The date is clearly indicated by a central hand and the days of the week and the months in two beveled apertures. This display combines reading comfort and balanced beauty.

The user-friendliness was at the heart of the caliber design. Indeed all the adjustments are extremely easy to make. The days of the week are updated by simply pushing the “easy to grip” button delicately integrated on the left side of the case. All the other adjustments are made by pulling and turning the crown. No tool is required. The fast-adjustment of the date with the central hand can be made by turning the crown forward and backward, allowing the month to be automatically updated accordingly.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece houses a manual winding mechanical movement equipped with a power-reserve area indication positioned on the movement side. The power reserve is guaranteed for 80 hours.

Perfect Readability:

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece developed by Laurent Ferrier ensures smooth continuity in the watchmaking journey of the House. This same spirit of functionality, as well as readability and aesthetic appeal are already present in the other models from the brand.

With the School Piece case, Laurent Ferrier’s objective was to develop a case with the same roundness, as when those pioneering watchmakers converted pocket watches into wristwatches. For this new caliber, Laurent Ferrier entirely adapted the 40mm School Piece case to ensure perfect harmony and balance between the movement and the timepiece.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The same straight, thin lugs offer another contrast of the modern and the traditional, the “pastille” end-piece decoration mirrored by the winding crown. Two gold (red and pale yellow) and a steel editions will be available. The gold Assegai hands and baton-type seconds hand retain their characteristic shape. A new red or burgundy hand created for the date, brings modernity and visibility to the timepiece.

The two beveled apertures for days and months ensure optimal readability. The date displayed all around the dial provides a view at one glance on all the relevant information.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The dial comes in silver-toned or slate-grey with vintage-inspired numerals painted in blue and two zones with vertical satin brushed on the center and circular satin brushed on the outer circle. Laurent Ferrier thereby once again proves its ability to find the perfect balance between a strongly identifiable neoclassical design on the one hand, user-friendliness on the other.

Emphasis On The Finishing:

The sapphire crystal case-back of the Galet Annual Calendar School Piece provides a fine view of the finesse of the finishing. In addition to the Côtes de Genève motif with a ruthenium treatment adorning the bridges and the circular-graining of the mainplate, the sides and interior angles are manually chamfered and the screw heads are polished.

We chose to use a long “blade” type click ratchet, polished and with a curved shape that reminds the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double hairspring. The sub-dial at 6 o’clock has a circular satin brushed outer circle and a snailed finish in the center. A sunburst finish was chosen to decorate the power-reserve area indication.

The Galet Annual Calendar School Piece is fitted with beige calf leather or black alligator strap with Alcantara lining, secured by a pin buckle or a double blade folding clasp.

LAURENT FERRIER – GALET Regulateur White Gold

LAURENT FERRIERGALET Micro-Rotor Natural Escapement Galet Régulateur White Gold 40mm

GAET RÉGULATEUR

“Charmed” best describes the reaction that greeted Laurent Ferrier’s wristwatch called the Montre École, or “School Piece”. It represented the watchmaker’s earliest development, returning to the basic pieces which forged his abilities as a watchmaker. It also possessed the qualities that would make it a “watchmaker’s watch,” minimalist yet complete. It was a watch that would speak to horologists who have been there, learning the basics – one they would love to wear themselves.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

What will surprise those who thought it may have been a cul de sac, a standalone expression of respect and nostalgia for the roots of his education is that the Montre École has evolved into precisely what any instructor would hope for such a timepiece: a platform that invited further projects. For the second model to use the School Piece case, Mr. Ferrier has turned to the layout that isn’t merely familiar to watchmakers. It is one that also represents a type of clock which would have been used to guide the watchmaker when making, servicing or regulating a timepiece.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For 2017, Laurent Ferrier will be launching a new Régulateur display on a base of a Galet Micro-Rotor movement, housed in a School Piece case. Its visage is classical, with the most important of the three indicators – the large, centrally-positioned hand – displaying the minutes. Above the centre, at 12 o’clock is the hours display, while below it, at 6 o’clock is the seconds subdial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

While regulators suggest the utilitarian and the functional, Laurent Ferrier is incapable of releasing a watch that is prosaic. The movement is the FBN Calibre 228.01, with automatic winding courtesy of a pawl-fitted micro-rotor, delivering a 72-hour power reserve. The 40mm stainless steel case or white gold is water resistant to 30m and is fitted with sapphire crystals for front and back, for a perfect view of the movement. Alongside the Côtes-de-Genève motif on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are chamfered and polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For the dial, a silver toned, vertical satin-brushed finish has been chosen, with the minute and seconds counters recessed and contracted with a nickel snailed finish. The small hours dial bears Roman numerals in black, while the minutes are shown on a “railway track” ring in slate grey with blue painted Arabic numerals at 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. The hands for the three functions include a “leaf-shaped” hand for the hours and “assegai-shaped” hand for the minutes and a baton-shaped hand for the seconds. All three hands are in white gold 18K/210Pd with a black ruthenium treatment.

The Galet Micro-Rotor Montre École Régulateur will be available from Laurent Ferrier agents from July.

LAURENT FERRIER – GALET Square Walton Street Edition

LAURENT FERRIERGALET Square Walton Street Special Edition

GALET SQUARE WALTON STREET - LIMITED EDITION
EXCLUSIVELY FOR SWISS FINETIMING

On demand of our partner Swiss FineTiming, Laurent Ferrier has created a new version of the Galet Square micro-rotor offering a two-tone red gold hued sector dial typical of the late 1930s with lugs designed for Swiss FineTiming. Furthermore, the design reflects an Art Deco feel consistent with the architecture of their Walton Street boutique. Laurent Ferrier was delighted to have shared this moment of creativity at the occasion of the opening of the new Swiss FineTiming store located on Walton Street, downtown Chicago.

A distinctive dial

For this special edition, Laurent Ferrier presents a new composition of space on its exceptional sector dial, while respecting the aesthetic codes of its collection. The harmonious division between an outer circle with a circular satin-brushed finish and a central zone with a vertical satin-brushed finish lends the dial this two-tone effect.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The space is marked out by an anthracite nickel and delicately accentuated raised chapter ring featuring curved markers paying a distinctive nod to the brand’s iconic drop-shaped hour-markers. This new red gold colored dial is punctuated by anthracite nickel Breguet type numerals at 9, 12 and 3 o’clock and an applied chapter ring with a round cabochon cut finish, polished manually offering a beautiful volume effect and focus firmly on readability. The outer rail is complemented by anthracite painted Breguet numerals.

The small seconds echoes the central theme, thereby endowing this model with a perfect balance entirely respectful of the pure lines and the principles of readability cherished by Laurent Ferrier.

The dial is graced with “arrow-shaped” hours and minutes hands in gold, treated with ruthenium; while the baton-type seconds hand set the perfect finishing touches. The Laurent Ferrier logo is silver print depicted on the cartouche.

A unique case

To highlight the unique nature of this model, Laurent Ferrier designed distinctive lugs featuring a side decoration exclusively for Swiss FineTiming. The timepiece is fitted with a ball-shaped winding-crown ensuring smooth and pleasant handling. The back sapphire was treated to reveal on the inner part, the Swiss FineTiming logo. The back bezel shows the number of the timepiece out of ten. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 metres.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Once again, Laurent Ferrier testifies to its determination and its ability to create models imbued with a pure aesthetic while also giving a preference to “bespoke” interpretations for unique occasions.

A tried and trusted movement

This watch is driven by the self-winding FBN Calibre 229.01 equipped with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and guaranteeing a three-day power reserve. This is the third exclusive in-house movement developed, assembled and adjusted in the Laurent Ferrier workshops. It comprises a silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance. This innovation developed by Laurent Ferrier gives two impulses to the balance per oscillation, a system requiring two escape-wheels and a specially designed lever.

Alongside the Côtes-de-Genève motif on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are chamfered and polished and the interior angles are hand-crafted.

The Galet Square Walton Street Swiss FineTiming Limited Edition is equipped with a brown alligator leather hand stitched strap which has a double layer with a flat upper part, which gives the timepiece an additional volume, featuring an Alcantara lining.
