GIRARD-PERREGAUXLAUREATO Absolute Infrared Black PVD Titanium 44 Edition 2021

La Chaux-de-Fonds, 17 May 2021 - Girard-Perregaux is releasing a new timepiece, endowed with a forged carbon dial, created exclusively for the Chinese market. The advent of this model, the Laureato Absolute Infrared, marks an interesting time for the Manufacture. Indeed, this year, coinciding with Girard-Perregaux's 230-year anniversary, will see the opening of a new boutique in China, a first for the brand.

Consistent with other Absolute models, the new Laureato Absolute Infrared features contemporary materials. In this instance, the 44mm case is formed of Grade 5 titanium dressed with a PVD treatment and paired with a distinctive forged carbon dial with prominent red accents. Lastly, despite its avant-garde appearance, the watch is fitted with a Manufacture movement, drawing on the brand's vast watchmaking expertise.

Girard-Perregaux
has a long history of supplying the Asian market, dating back over 160 years when Francois Perregaux, the brother-in-law of Constant Girard, one of the Maison's founders, lived and worked within the region. China has always been a dynamic market and of huge significance to the Maison. A few months ago, the brand released the Quasar Infrared made exclusively for the Chinese market. Now, it returns with a new model, the Laureato Absolute Infrared, again produced exclusively for mainland China. Later this year, Girard-Perregaux will open a boutique in China, a first for the company and a further demonstration of its commitment to this important region.

The Laureato Absolute Infrared is housed in a 44mm, Grade 5 titanium case suffused with PVD. Titanium was selected for the case as it is lightweight, augmenting wearer comfort, while the PVD treatment endows the model with a sublime stealthy appearance. Despite its modernity, the case also showcases matchless traditional craftsmanship with polished and satin finishes skilfully applied throughout. The model has an octagonal bezel, a design feature first seen on the legendary Laureato of 1975 and a characteristic that continues to proffer much eye-appeal.

The dial of this latest creation is made from forged carbon, an ultra-modern material that is produced using a time-consuming process. Everything starts with carbon fibre thread, cut into lengths, precisely weighed and placed in a mould. Liquid resin is added to the strands of carbon fibre and thereafter subjected to heat and pressure. The resultant material is then milled to the desired shape and thickness to form a strong and light dial. Owing to the random alignment of the carbon fibre strands, each dial has its own unique appearance.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Baton-style hour and minutes hands, enlivened with red tips, collaborate with bold red indexes to enunciate the prevailing time. Unlike other Laureato Absolute models, the new Infrared version eschews a sandwich dial construction, presenting the technical forged carbon epidermis as a captivating canvas of randomly aligned patterns. The indexes are not affixed to the dial in a conventional way, but emanate from the flange, angled downwards towards the fulcrum of the dial. A lithe central sweep seconds hand glides over the minute track, presented on the flange, and the date is shown at 6 o'clock. Similar to a painting by an Old Master, the dial of the Laureato Absolute Infrared is endowed with becoming textures and depths.

At the heart of the Laureato Absolute Infrared is a Manufacture movement, the self-winding Calibre GP0330-1060. It is comprised of 218 components, all produced to Girard-Perregaux's exacting standards.

Gaydon, UK, 22 February 2021 - Girard-Perregaux has been announced as Official Watch Partner of luxury British automotive manufacturer, Aston Martin. The Swiss Manufacture is one of the oldest names in watchmaking, known for making peerless exemplars of Haute Horlogerie. The two brands will collaborate on upcoming limited-edition timepieces.

In the relentless pursuit of speed, time is the overriding concern. The race against the clock has captivated fans of motorsport for over 100 years, while the measurement of time has challenged watchmakers throughout history. The similarities between both domains are clear to see.

Both Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux were founded by visionaries with an innate passion. Aston Martin was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, while Girard-Perregaux can trace its origins to 1791 when Jean-François Bautte, aged just 19, produced his first watch. But most notably, it was a love story which led to the birth of one of the greatest names in watchmaking when Constant Girard married Marie Perregaux in 1854.

The now-legendary Aston Martin DBR1 (1956), a car made for competitive racing, was a precursor for some of the marque’s most well-known heritage ‘DB’ road cars. It was styled in-house by a highly talented designer, Frank Feeley, and represents what is unquestionably his ‘finest hour’ – indeed the shape of the DBR1 remains one of the most beautiful and graceful of all time. Moreover, the design incorporates a key functional attribute – the side air vent – which debuted on this car and remains a key functional and visual characteristic of Aston

Martin
’s road-going sports cars to this day. This functional element has become a key aesthetic detail that imbues the marque’s models with their distinctive personality. In fact, one glance at an Aston Martin car immediately reveals the identity of its maker.

Similarly, when Girard-Perregaux released its now-famous Tourbillon ‘With Three Gold Bridges’ in 1867, it transformed three functional components, often hidden from view, into attractive aesthetic features. Indeed, with the advent of this watch, the once invisible was deliberately made visible. Throughout its 230-year history, the Swiss Manufacture has demonstrated its creativity, often playing with different shapes. Indeed, it is this mindset that inspired the brand’s slogan ‘Shaping the now for those in the know.’

While both organisations have amassed a wealth of skills and traditions, they continue to look ahead. Indeed, it is this progressive mindset which sees both firms embrace continuous improvement and pursue superior performance.

Tobias Moers, Aston Martin Lagonda’s Chief Executive Officer, remarks: “The real beauty of partnerships such as this one is that, although we share very similar core values, the two brands can learn a great deal from one another. Girard-Perregaux is a prolific innovator in the use of materials and new technology. We both create highly desirable luxury products that are beautifully designed, deliver a powerful performance and exhibit flawless execution.”

Otmar Szafnauer, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula OneTM Team Chief Executive Officer and Team Principal, remarks: “We at Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™  Team are thrilled to be announcing a partnership with Girard-Perregaux today. Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux share so many brand touchpoints – a rich history, a glorious heritage, and a relentless devotion to the pursuit of premium quality combined with high technology. On the racetrack, time, too, is of the essence. Formula One™  and Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™  Team in particular will prove themselves to be respectively a fantastic platform and a brilliant partner for Girard-Perregaux, whose timepieces lead the way in terms of quality and desirability.”

Patrick Pruniaux, Girard-Perregaux’s Chief Executive Officer, adds: “2021 is an important year for both Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin. We are celebrating an astonishing 230 years of watchmaking, whilst Aston Martin celebrates its return to Formula One as a works team for the first time in over 60 years. We have much to celebrate so uniting our worlds to create something special is the perfect way to acknowledge and appreciate these milestones.”

Girard-Perregaux branding will feature on the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™  Team cars as of the beginning of the 2021 F1 season in Bahrain while the first timepiece to be borne from the collaboration between Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux will be revealed later this year.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX – BRIDGES “Quasar Infrared” Tourbillon Sapphire Edition

GIRARD-PERREGAUXBRIDGES Quasar Infrared” Tourbillon Sapphire 46 Edition Unique Pieces - 2021

Quasar Infrared – Making the invisible, visible

La Chaux-de-Fonds, 2021 - Building on the success of its Quasar Light and Quasar Azure models, Girard-Perregaux releases a new timepiece housed in a clear sapphire crystal case paired with red accents. The Quasar Infrared pays homage to the Chinese New Year with its red tones, employing a colour that evokes energy, vitality and prosperity. Beyond the model’s vibrant hues, the watch wonderfully plays with shapes and harnesses the Manufacture’s vast watchmaking expertise. Moreover, the Quasar Infrared makes the invisible, visible, transforming bridges from a technical element to an integral part of the timepiece, a characteristic Girard-Perregaux pioneered in 1867 with its legendary Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges.

As China looks forward to celebrating the New Year, a sense of optimism is omnipresent. With the start of the new Chinese Zodiac comes the opportunity for loved ones to come together, celebrate and look forward to better times. Girard-Perregaux shares this positive outlook and, in order to mark the occasion, is releasing a special one-off timepiece, the Quasar Infrared. This model is housed in a sapphire crystal case, a horological genre which has become a speciality of the house.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
A quasar is a massive, extremely luminous and remote celestial object which emits large amounts of energy. When viewed through a telescope it resembles a star-like point of light. The Manufacture chose this name for its Quasar creations as it encapsulates the model’s generous proportions, shapes, energy, its notable scarcity and its play with light. Inevitably, this provokes the question, ‘Why Infrared?’

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
Infrared light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and essentially invisible to the naked eye. However, with its distinctive red hues, Girard-Perregaux has made Infrared visible. In the 19th century, Girard-Perregaux viewed movement bridges as not merely functional components, but also as aesthetic elements. Over the years, the Manufacture has released a number of models sharing the same trait, namely, making the invisible, visible.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, remarks, “We wanted to create a watch that exudes vitality and evokes thoughts of good fortune and positivity. In Chinese culture, the colour red conveys these sentiments. The Quasar Infrared combines red hues with transparency and iconic shapes as well as our signature Three Bridges. This creation is modern but employs Girard-Perregauxs vast expertise amassed over its 230-year history.

The clear case allows Girard-Perregaux to showcase the art of precision engineering with every element of the model’s composition refined to the nth degree. The sapphire case is fashioned from a single sapphire disc. Thereafter, the disc is formed, milled and polished to create a smooth, homogenous surface, free of inclusions. This latter phase alone takes over 200 hours of work and hundreds of operations, employing techniques perfected over two centuries. Making the case, lugs and crown is protracted, but excellence is seldom achieved in haste.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A notable attribute of the Quasar Infrared relates to its breathtaking transparency. Components which are normally hidden from view are freely shown. It is therefore imperative that each part is presented in flawless form. However, with 230 years of experience, Girard-Perregaux is able to meet such technical challenges.

Set within the azure blue case, the tourbillion seemingly floats. Its cage is lyre-shaped, a historical design dating back to the 19th century. However, this contemporary creation indulges the wearer with aerial views of the Neo Bridges, a Girard-Perregaux signature inspired by architectural structures. While these bridges appear futuristic, they continue to uphold the styling of La Esmeralda. The Grade 5 titanium bridges are set against the NAC treated mainplate, revealing the smallest details of the mechanism. Despite the modernity of this model, traditional hand-finishing is much in evidence.

The tourbillon cage is powered by a unidirectional automatic winding system featuring a micro-rotor made of white gold. Comprised of 79 components and weighing a mere 0.25 grams, the low mass of the tourbillon cage consumes only small amounts of energy, augmenting the movement’s available power-reserve.
Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The micro-rotor is intentionally positioned behind the barrel, contributing to the pure, uncluttered appearance of the Quasar Infrared’s fully skeletonised movement. The Dauphine-type hour and minute hands feature red luminescent treatment. The strap is presented in the same ebullient hues, bestowing the composition with a harmonious visual aspect.

The Quasar Infrared is housed in a handblown floating glass sphere made in Switzerland, ensuring consistency with Girard-Perregaux’s origins. This unique piece is available in Girard-Perregaux’s Hong Kong boutique, located in K11 Musea.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX – BRIDGES “Quasar Azure” Tourbillon Sapphire Edition

GIRARD-PERREGAUXBRIDGES Quasar Light” Tourbillon Blue Sapphire 46 Limited Edition - 2020

Quasar Azure – Seduced by the Light

La Chaux-de-Fonds, 2020 - Girard-Perregaux is pleased to unveil the Quasar Azure, a new iteration of the original Quasar encased in azure blue sapphire crystal, recalling the Manufacture’s first Bridges timepieces created in 1867. This new model is a limited edition of eight pieces, conferring a notable degree of exclusivity.

The ability to showcase the art of precision engineering is among Girard-Perregaux’s greatest achievements. For example, the Three Gold Bridges employed on La Esmeralda, the world-famous pocket watch of 1889, were both functional and aesthetically alluring. The Quasar Azure honours this legacy by engineering transparency to the extreme. Named after a luminous astronomical entity - the Quasar – its azure blue case is sculpted from a single sapphire disc. This case, with its sapphire crystal box, provides striking aerial views of the Manufacture’s skeletonised movement, the Calibre GP09400-1035.

In the words of CEO Patrick Pruniaux, “When the tourbillon is bathed with light, the Quasar Azure shines like a star in the mysterious darkness of space. This model is testament to our mastery of Haute Horlogerie and is rooted in our design language, albeit in this instance, it is seen through a prism of cutting-edge technology. The Quasar Azure is a brilliantly bold expression of the company’s technical mastery, contemporary design and rich heritage. Indeed, the Quasar Azure embodies the very essence of Girard-Perregaux.”

Sapphire is extremely difficult to craft because of its hardness. The case is formed, coloured, milled and polished by Girard-Perregaux artisans through a protracted process, taking over 200 hours. Once completed, the case must be a uniform shade and free of any inclusions. Making the case of the Quasar Azure, including its lugs and crown, necessitates exceptional craftsmanship, a strength synonymous with Girard-Perregaux.

The micro-rotor is intentionally positioned behind the barrel, contributing to the pure, uncluttered appearance of the Quasar Azure’s fully skeletonised movement. Touches of blue luminescent material on the Dauphine-type hours and minutes hands, as well as the blue strap’s stitching, perfectly demonstrate the company’s fastidious attention to detail.

The Quasar Azure is housed in a handblown floating glass sphere, made in Switzerland, just as any Girard-Perregaux timepiece since the Maison’s inception in 1791. It is immediately available by special order, sold exclusively via selected authorised Girard-Perregaux retailers. The Quasar Azure is a brilliantly bold expression of the technical mastery, contemporary design and rich heritage that exemplifies Girard-Perregaux. The 8 exclusive pieces are now luminous stars at the centre of an entirely new galaxy of watchmaking excellence.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX – BRIDGES Cosmos Infinity Edition

GIRARD-PERREGAUXBRIDGES Cosmos Infinity Edition Titanium 47mm - 2020

Cosmos Infinity Edition Above and Beyond

La Chaux-de-Fonds, 26 August, 2020 - Girard-Perregaux is delighted to unveil the Cosmos Infinity Edition, an evolution of the Cosmos released in 2019. Limited to just eight pieces, this latest edition grants a high quotient of exclusivity. This masterpiece showcases Girard-Perregaux’s horological know-how, uncompromising finishing and artisanal craftsmanship. The Grade 5 titanium composition is juxtaposed with an array of parts dressed in black onyx.

The Cosmos Infinity Edition features no less than three exceptional complications. Firstly, a lyre-shaped Tourbillon cage is held in position by Girard-Perregaux’s signature ‘Neo Bridge’. Secondly, a terrestrial globe, positioned at 3 o’clock, proves an eye-catching means of conveying whether the indicated time is day or night. And thirdly, a celestial globe displays the constellations of the Zodiac. Both globes are formed of polished onyx and are hand-decorated using micro-painting. This artisanal technique involves the application of pink gold to each globe, bestowing a sublime contrast with the glossy black onyx stone. The hand-painting of each globe can be personalised on request.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In astronomy, terrestrial time is the measure of time defined by the Earth’s orbital motion. The Sun revolves around the Earth every 24 hours. Celestial time, more commonly known as sidereal time, equals the rotation period of a celestial object. Basically, the celestial vault scrolls past the Earth in just 23 hours and 56 minutes.

Unlike the real world, viewing constellations on the dial of this model is not impeded by light pollution or limited light.

The terrestrial globe, positioned on the right side of the dial, rotates 360° every 24 hours while the celestial globe, positioned opposite, rotates 360° every 23 hours and 56 minutes. The different pace of each globe is barely perceptible to the human eye; however, it demonstrates Girard Perregaux’s meticulous attention to detail.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Tourbillon is presented at the base of the mainplate. Its purpose it to mitigate the adverse influence of gravity on the balance, thereby enhancing precision. A Neo Bridge straddles the opening for the tourbillon and is made of space-age Grade 5 titanium alloy with black PVD treatment. This bridge and large opening afford mesmerising views of the Tourbillon cage rotating and the balance and escapement in motion. The complexity of a tourbillon necessitates much expertise to assemble and regulate. This competence has always been at the epicentre of Girard-Perregaux’s DNA, dating back to the 1860s when the company produced its first pocket watch equipped with a Tourbillon.

The layout of the Cosmos Infinity Edition ensures that all the complications are aligned in perfect symmetry. To enhance this sense of balance, the watch dispenses with a conventional crown. Instead, an innovative winding and setting system is located on the reverse of the timepiece and recalls the styling of pocket watches from yesteryear. The setting system features three engravings, filled with luminescent ceramic indicating the purpose of each bélière.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Cosmos Infinity Edition is a journey through the stars that ‘makes the invisible visible’, a hallmark of our brand dating back to the 1860s”, explains CEO Patrick Pruniaux. “The movements and constellations reveal the mysteries of the universe that are invisible to the naked eye.”

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The use of black onyx for the dial and globes symbolises the depth of the universe and its infinite mystery. This exemplar of fine watchmaking embraces an ethereal domain where artisans shape and polish onyx discs by hand, culminating in the onyx exhibiting a mirror-like appearance. It takes no fewer than 15 different operations to create the thin dial and three-dimensional globes and requires exceptional skill to realise these components.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Befitting the appellation of ‘Haute Horlogerie’, the Calibre GP09320-1440 is enriched with high-end finishing. The titanium Neo Bridge, presented at the base of the mainplate, is black PVD-treated, sandblasted and incorporates hand-bevelling. Similarly, the mainplate is black PVD-treated and embellished with circular-graining, sandblasting and bevelling. In contrast to the sapphire crystal on its flat caseback, the Cosmos Infinity Edition features a sapphire crystal box, providing a three-dimensional view of the dial area. Its domed shape requires four to five times more material to shape and polish.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Cosmos Infinity is a celestial feat that ties together all the novelties we’re launching at the Geneva Watch Days. All of these novelties convey our infinite passion and commitment to upholding our company’s reputation for extraordinary craftsmanship”, explains CEO Patrick Pruniaux.

The Cosmos Infinity Edition will be available worldwide from selected authorised Girard-Perregaux retailers as of September 2020.
