GIRARD-PERREGAUX – LAUREATO Chronograph – Aston Martin Edition

The partnership first revealed in early 2021, and indeed, genuine friendship formed between Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin has led to the creation of a new timepiece, the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition. Its styling masterfully plays with shapes, textures, and light, tailored to those who appreciate luxury and performance.

Collectively, the two companies have over 330 years of amassed know-how, something that is evident when appraising  both firms’ creations. However, while they respect their heritage, they share a resolutely forward-thinking outlook.

Back in the early 1900s, various colours were assigned to racing cars to distinguish the different nationalities of the teams. As a result, French cars were presented in blue, Italian cars were famously red, Belgian cars were yellow, German cars were silver, and British cars were dressed in British Racing Green. As a British marque, Aston Martin adopted green as its racing colour with the most famous example being the Aston Martin DBR1 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. From that car to the modern day Formula 1® car, Aston Martin’s racing colour has remained green.

Aston Martin - DBR1

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO The Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition is the latest creation from Girard-Perregaux, made in collaboration with Aston Martin Lagonda. Its dial is suffused with a delightfully decadent application of what is now known as “Aston Martin Green”, achieved by painstakingly applying paint twenty-one times to the dial, forming seven distinct layers of paint as a result. The automotive influences also encompass cross-hatching, a diamond-like pattern first seen with the carmaker’s ‘AM’ logo (1921 1926). This motif was also inspired by the quilted seats found in the British brand’s numerous high-performance sports cars.

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, said, “Our Manufacture has a long history of collaborations, beginning with our founder Jean-François Bautte who brought different “établisseurs” together under one roof, effectively creating one of the first Manufactures as we know them today. Not only has our partnership with Aston Martin yielded two exceptional timepieces now, it is indeed a meeting of the minds and marks the beginnings of a true friendship between both brands and our teams. The Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin edition is evidence of that mutual understanding and shared philosophy.”

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, added: “As Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux strengthen our partnership, the same is happening with our common design ethos, geared towards discreet luxury.

Aston Martin - DBR4
Evidence of it continues to appear in subtle touches throughout the watch, for instance in its partially openworked hour and minute hands, which have been purposely designed to evoke thoughts of racing cars, eschewing extraneous material to deliver superior performance. Likewise, the central chronograph seconds hand features a counterweight that resembles the sides strakes first seen on the 1958 Aston Martin DB4.”

Three counters grace the dial, two chronograph registers and a small seconds display. Each counter features a partially openworked hand, perpetuating the design of the hour and minute hands. The central section of each counter is snailed. A date display is positioned at 04:30, completing the inventory of functions.

Sporting an octagonal bezel, the profile of this model honours the watch brand’s iconic Laureato of 1975. Upholding Girard-Perregaux’s design philosophy, the case masterfully plays with different shapes. Moreover, the numerous curves, facets and lines, along with satin-finished and polished edges, collaborate, delivering a wonderful play with light.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A pane of sapphire crystal, positioned to the rear of the watch, affords sight of the automatic, Manufacture movement, the Calibre GP03300-0141, marking the first time a Laureato Chronograph features an open caseback. This movement, based on the highly regarded Calibre GP03300, is endowed with Côtes de Genève, in both circular and straight forms, polished sinks, thermally blued screws and perlage. The movement also bears the eagle emblem, signifying it is an in-house calibre.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch is housed in a 42mm 904L stainless steel case. This particular grade of steel is less common than 316L and is costlier, the relative benefits of which include superior corrosion resistance, improved scratch resistance and a much brighter, luxurious appearance. The use of 904L stainless steel extends to the bracelet which is enriched with a satin brushed finish.

When appraising the composition of the Laureato Chronograph - Aston Martin Edition, its profile encompasses different shapes, finishes and hues. Its design delivers functionality and beauty. Furthermore, it celebrates the past while simultaneously embracing the future. It is this approach that resonates with both companies, reinforcing the rationale for the ongoing alliance between the two prestigious marques.

La Chaux-de-Fonds, 6 SeptemBer, 2021 - Girard-Perregaux is pleased to unveil the Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer Blue, а limited-edition watch created exclusively for the prestigious retailer. Housed in а sapphire crystal case and featuring titanium lugs, this model provides а three-dimensional view of numerous movement components. Furthermore, it is the transparent characteristic of the sapphire case which invites light to bathe the various internal parts, thereBy accentuating the тапу shapes employed.

Girard-Perregaux - A Pocket History 1889 circa La ESMERALDA

Throughout its 230 year history, Girard-Perregaux has produced watches that masterfully play with shapes and light. Moreover, since the Manufacture released the 'Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges' in 1867, it has repeatedly revealed functional components, ordinarily hidden from view, and made them aesthetic elements. The new Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer Blue incorporates all of the aforementioned characteristics, But with а notaBly modern twist.

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, remarks, "Girard-Perregaux is а brand whose origins are rooted in the spirit of collaboration, for instance by uniting ëtaBlisseurs in the 18"' century under опе roof to form опе of the earliest Manufactures. The Laureato ABsolute Light Bucherer Blueis а perfect example of how this ethos persists today, as our priority is to work closely with key retail partners and provide such exciting exclusives. We are thrilled to unveilthe result of this collaboration, dressed in blue, in keeping with Bucherer's well-known theme."

Housed in а 44mm case, the Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer upholds some of the design codes first seen on the inaugural Laureato of 1975 including its famous octagonal bezel. However, while the family likeness is clear to see, this latest creation also encompasses а number of new, eye-catching details. For instance, the clear case is formed of sapphire crystal. Over а 300 hour period, this is grown, milled and polished. It is rigorously checked in order to ensure there are по inclusions.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Most watch movements start with the mainplate which is often round. Essentially, the mainplate provides the foundations of the movement. Various moving components are positioned atop the mainplate and in turn several bridges are positioned above said components. In its most simplistic form, а movement is comprised of three layers. Ordinarily, some or all of the movement is hidden from view. However, the Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer does not subscribe to this convention.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The octagonal mainplate of the Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer emulates the shape of the iconic bezel found on the 1975 original. It is dressed in blue PVD, Bucherer's house colours. The mainplate is incredibly strong, preventing unwanted flex which could adversely affect reliability, and the case is formed of sapphire with titanium lugs. The sapphire sections of the case afford sublime views of the mainplate, various components like the balance and the mainspring, as well as openworked NAC- treated bridges.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
The Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer continues to indulge the mechanically curious with several pared back components. These include а hollowed-out barrel drum and а skeletonised gold oscillating weight. The openworking also extends to the hour and minute hands which feature а skeletonised design affording superior views of the movement below.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is the transparent characteristic of the sapphire case which invites light to bathe the various internal parts and, in so doing, accentuate each straight line and every sinuous contour, especially of the movement within. The latter is screwed together with the bezel, case and case-back, through the eight corners of the octagonal mainplate.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
At the heart of this watch is the self-winding Manufacture movement, the Calibre GP01800-1652
While this timepiece тау be modern, it perpetuates the Maison's reputation for no-compromise, traditional finishing. For example, the NAC treated bridges are circular satin-finished. The movement also features several highly desirable technical features such as а variable inertia balance. When contrasted with the ubiquitous index-regulated balance, the variable inertia balance is superior, proving less susceptible to positional influence and delivering better rate stability.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Two titanium lugs unite the sapphire case with а strap made of GP Rubber Alloy, а world premiere unveiled by the brand earlier this year, made of grey FKM rubber alloy injected with titanium and finished with а fabric effect texture. The Manufacture has selected this type of rubber because it provides greater suppleness and resistance when contrasted with conventional rubber. Girard- Perregaux has chosen to pairthe strap with а titanium folding clasp with а micro-adjustment system, allowing the wearer to fine tune the size to deliver the optimal wrist fit.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX – LAUREATO Absolute Ti 230 Edition

GIRARD-PERREGAUXLAUREATO Absolute Ti 230 Titanium 44 Edition 2021

A remarkable year

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

La Chaux-de-Fonds, 3 August, 2021 – Girard-Perregaux was founded 230 years ago in 1791, the same year an English clergyman, William Gregor, discovered titanium in Cornwall. With the release of the Laureato Absolute Ti 230, the new model unites the Manufacture’s know-how with the lightweight element. The resultant two watches are contemporary, rich in character and repeatedly play with contrasting shades and shapes. Further highlighting this important anniversary, the Ti 230 blue dial reference will be distributed exclusively through Wempe for the first month following its launch.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This year marks the 230th anniversary of Girard-Perregaux. As part of its celebrations, the Manufacture is revisiting its iconic models and releasing a number of new creations. The story of the Maison began in 1791 when Jean-François Bautte, aged just 19, produced his first pocket watch. However, the most romantic chapter in the brand’s history is when Constant Girard married Marie Perregaux in 1854, culminating in the birth of one of the greatest names in watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In 1791, clearly a remarkable year, an English clergyman, William Gregor, discovered a black sand called menachanite in Cornwall. He analysed it and concluded that it contained oxides of iron and an unknown metal. This metal was subsequently identified as titanium, an element named after the Titans, the children of Uranus and Gaea in Greek mythology. Today, titanium is widely used, not only in watchmaking but also in the fields of aerospace, medicine and motorsport, selected for its array of benefits.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Laureato Absolute Ti 230 unites the two stories of Girard-Perregaux and William Gregor, drawing on know-how amassed over 230 years. Titanium comes in many forms, sometimes alloyed with other elements. Girard-Perregaux prefers to use Grade 5 titanium as it is particularly strong, corrosion resistant, lightweight and hypoallergenic; attributes that enrich the wearer’s experience.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Another reason for using Grade 5 titanium is that the metal can be polished. Girard-Perregaux presents the Laureato Absolute Ti 230 in a 44mm lightly sandblasted case that encompasses polished facets, providing a beautiful gleam and subtle contrast. Successfully combining both types of finish proves more demanding, however, as Girard-Perregaux has repeatedly shown, it never shies from a challenge.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, remarks, “With the release of the Laureato Absolute Ti 230 we wanted to create a new version of our iconic watch from 1975. This model is modern but encompasses traditional craftsmanship. The sandwich dial construction and GP’s world-premiere Rubber Alloy strap, this time incorporating titanium, are further sumptuous details that also feature on this watch. Finally, while the price may be more inclusive, the quality remains typically Girard-Perregaux and the watch feels just as exclusive as our other models.”

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Kim-Eva Wempe
, managing owner of Gerhard D. Wempe KG of Wempe, comments, “Once again, Girard-Perregaux kindly approached us and offered exclusivity for this new model prior to its worldwide launch. We are delighted to have this opportunity and we appreciate the close working relationship we enjoy with Girard-Perregaux, forged over several years but solidified last year when we were fortunate to become their exclusive retailer across Germany.”

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The combination of curves and lines are juxtaposed with the octagonal bezel and crown, beautifully playing with contrasts. The Laureato Absolute Ti 230 is available with a choice of a blue or grey dial, augmenting eye-appeal. For the first time, the Maison offers a Laureato Absolute where the crown is encircled with a rubber ring, matching the hue of the rubber strap. This detail may not be obvious at first glance, but it will be familiar to those in the know.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The dial is of a sandwich-type construction, comprised of an upper layer, perforated with numerous openings, sat upon a lower layer. The apertures in the upper layer afford partial sight of the lower layer, presented in grey. By adopting this design approach, the apertures form recessed luminescent baton-type indexes, wonderfully playing with depths, thereby heightening the overall appearance of the dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Beating at the heart of the Laureato Absolute Ti 230 is a self-winding Manufacture movement, the Calibre GP03300-1060. It contains 218 components, all produced to Girard-Perregaux’s exacting standards.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Upholding Laureato tradition, the strap is integrated, a characteristic found on the original model released in 1975. The strap, made of GP Rubber Alloy, this time containing titanium, perfectly matches the colour of the dial, and features a fabric effect texture, tastefully enlivened with grey stitching. Girard-Perregaux, consistent with its no-compromise attitude, has selected FKM rubber, a specification that provides greater suppleness and resistance than conventional rubber. The Manufacture has chosen to pair the strap with a titanium folding clasp with a micro-adjustment system, allowing the wearer to fine tune the size to deliver the optimal wrist fit.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Laureato Absolute Ti 230, as previously stated, is offered in two variants, blue and grey. Each option is limited to 230 pieces.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTOThe blue dial version of the Laureato Absolute Ti 230 will be sold exclusively by Wempe for one month in its ten boutiques across Germany as well as its flagship stores in New York and London. Thereafter, the model will be available in all authorised Girard-Perregaux retailers and on the brand’s e-commerce site.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges–Aston Martin Edition

GIRARD-PERREGAUXBRIDGES Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges–Aston Martin Edition 2021

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

1 June 2021, La Chaux-de-Fonds: The first timepiece borne of the recently announced partnership between Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin has been revealed. The Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges - Aston Martin Edition unites the watchmaking expertise of Cirard- Perregaux with Aston Martin's unigue knowledge of luxury and performance.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Both brands demonstrate a passion for refined craftsmanship and have been working together, sharing their understanding of design, materials and technology. This latest model celebrates the iconic Three Bridges pocket watch from the 19th century in a decidedly contemporary way, down to the smallest details, including the strap.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The latter is a world premiere, presented in black calf leather and featuring Girard-Perregaux Rubber Alloy, an innovative rubber insert injected with white gold. The design of the strap is intended to evoke thoughts of Aston Martin racing cars of the past.

Upholding Girard-Perregaux tradition, this model skilfully plays with proportions and shapes much to the delight of aesthetes.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The 44 millimetre case of the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges - Aston Martin Edition is formed of Grade 5 titanium, a strong, hypoallergenic alloy selected by Aston Martin for its lightweight properties. It is suffused with black DLC, bestowing the watch with a stealthy appearance. Interestingly, titanium ore was discovered in Great Britain, the home of Aston Martin, back in 1791 by an English clergyman, William Gregor, in the same year Girard-Perregaux was founded.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A sapphire crystal 'box' is positioned front of house, as well as to the rear, coaxing light to illuminate the case interior, thereby augmenting readability. The movement eschews a mainplate, sitting between both panes of sapphire crystal and seemingly floating in mid-air.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Three bridges, an iconic signature of Girard-Perregaux, span the dial and are formed of titanium with black PVD treatment and polished angles. The design endows the timepiece with an airy appearance, affording breathtaking views of movement components ordinarily hidden from view.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

While Girard-Perregaux has a long history of making the invisible visible, in this instance it has ventured off-piste, creating a watch whose movement appears to levitate within the case. This is achieved by paring back the movement, causing the mainplate to seemingly disappear within the case, thereby creating the illusion of the movement flying within the case. It was this particular characteristic that led to the term ‘Flying Bridges'.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The cage of the tourbillon, positioned in the lower portion of the dial, is 'lyre-shaped', a characteristic found on all the company's tourbillons dating back to the 19th century. A blued hand affixed to the cage imparts the running seconds. The tourbillon cage, measuring a mere 10mm in diameter, is composed of 79 components which collectively weigh only 0.25 grams. This remarkably low figure helps mitigate energy consumption.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The barrel, positioned at 12 o'clock, is openworked, affording partial views of the mainspring. A white gold micro-rotor, positioned beneath the barrel, energises the mainspring and, unlike most automatic watches, it grants unobstructed views of the movement. The car company's name is engraved on the vertical flank of the micro-rotor and is filled with white luminescent treatment which appears blue in restricted light. Likewise, the indexes and hands are also treated with white luminescent treatment and, once again, emit a blue glow in dim light.

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux
, said, "We are delighted to partner with Aston Martin, entrusting their team with arguably our most iconic timepiece, delivering a fresh perspective on Haute Horlogerie. Rarely do we work with others to reinterpret the Three Bridges, however, on this occasion, we have made an exception, mindful of Aston Martin's prowess for design.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

"When viewing the design of an Aston Martin, you will note the firm's distinctive front grille, first seen on the DB Mark III of the late 50s. Likewise, the scoops and side strakes found on the company's modern-day models are functional elements, intended to improve airflow while enriching the overall appearance of each car."

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

"At Girard-Perregaux we share a similar philosophy. For example, when the Maison released the nowlegendary Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges in 1867, it transformed three functional elements into attractive aesthetic features and demonstrated an approach that we continue to employ today. Finally, this latest partnership provides a fascinating chapter in Girard-Perregaux's 230-year history." Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, adds: "The greatest of the challenges we faced with the design of this new timepiece was that of scale, as one can imagine. We had to consider lines and proportion on a far smaller measure than we are used to in the realm of automotive design. That said, good design is good design, so whether it is a watch or a car, the principles remain the same. I'm delighted with the finished watch and congratulate everyone who worked on this project as this collaboration has produced a timepiece of great beauty.
