Geneva – Frederique Constant has been a proud partner of Only Watch since its first edition, and will do so again this year, presenting a unique timepiece for auction.

Only Watch Partnership

Now presenting its 7th Edition, Only Watch is a biennale auction of unique timepieces that has raised over 25 million Euros to date. Under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and following the initiative of Luc Pettavino, President of the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies, Only Watch is an international watchmaking charity event.

All of the funds collected from the sale of the watches are donated in their entirety to scientific and medical research. The exclusive watches will embark on a world tour starting in the charity’s hometown of Monaco, and then continuing to Asia, the Gulf, the United States and Europe, before the final auction in Geneva on November 11th 2017.

For this exclusive Only Watch edition, the brand wanted to present a variation of this timepiece that is incredibly jaw dropping. The timepiece features the functions of a perpetual calendar, such as hours, minutes, moonphase, date, day, month and most importantly the leap year. All in an 18k polished rose gold 42mm case with a see-through back case revealing intricate Perlage and Côtes de Genève decoration on the FC-775 in-house caliber.

However, what makes this piece truly exclusive is the one-of-a-kind meteorite dial giving the once classic timepiece, an edgy twist! Meteorite stones are often found in desert areas; in this case, the one used for this unique piece was uncovered in the desert of Namibia.

Frederique Constant launches a Special Edition 

for the Middle East, the Arabic Heritage Edition

Geneva – Frederique Constant has been no stranger to creating special editions to celebrate different cultures and countries around the world. This year, the brand is honoring the Arabic culture with its own Arabic Heritage Edition timepiece. This special watch will be available in all Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Astronomy in Arabic Culture

For as long as time itself, Arabs have been precursors in the fields of mathematics, algebra and astronomy. For this noble culture, not only did the stars and the moon tell a story, but they dictated their daily lives. Indeed, this culture used the stars and the moon to create the lunar calendar which is still followed today.

The calendar set the different important moments in a person’s life, such as Ramadan or Hajj. Nighttime and all its celestial wonders hold the most important meaning in a Muslim’s life and this is why it was only natural to Frederique Constant to design this timepiece with a midnight blue dial and incorporating a moonphase at 6 o’clock.

Arabic Heritage

The Arabic Heritage Edition features Eastern Arabic numerals on the dial. The system was adopted by Arab mathematicians in Baghdad and passed on to the Arabs farther west. After one of his visits to the Maghreb region, Fibonacci later adapted these symbols to the numerals used today in western society.

Frederique Constant’s timepiece honors this heritage by placing these eastern Arabic Numerals on the dial as one of the most precious Arabic Heritage symbols.

Manufacture Movement FC-715

The FC-715 is one of the most sought after movements in the Manufacture collection. This version holds a 40,5mm stainless steel case featuring a case back opening, that once opened reveals the heart of the movement, a true hidden treasure. The movement features a 6 o’clock opening for the moonphase and date by hand featuring the Eastern Arabic numerals, both adjustable through the crown.

As a true Manufacture movement, completely in-house designed, produced and assembled, it features Perlages and Cotes de Genève decoration and this particular caliber holds a 42h power reserve.  The dial features a mesmerizing midnight blue color which contrasts with the silver-colored hands and numerals mimicking an endless starry night. The whole is made complete with an elegant blue alligator strap.

In 2009, Frederique Constant debuted its collaboration with the Riva Historical Society alongside Piero Mario Gibellini and Carlos Riva whose sole purpose is to preserve the remaining Riva boats worldwide, and helping their owners safeguard their prized possessions in the best way possible.

From Sea to Land

In that same year, Frederique Constant launched its first Runabout timepiece named after the legendary Runabout yachts of the 1920s.

Refined Elegance

Both new versions of the Frederique Constant Runabout embody a classic, sophisticated watch featuring hours, minutes, seconds, date and a 24h GMT with a guilloché-decorated dial and applied luminous indexes. The whole is completed by a 42mm polished stainless steel 3-parts case, a see-through case back, which displays the inner workings of the FC-350 movement featuring an in-house GMT module.

The first option features a silver-colored dial with a blue GMT hand with a matching navy blue leather strap. While the second option offers a dark grey dial contrasting with a white GMT hand with a light brown leather strap. Both versions are a Limited Edition of 2’888 pieces each, and are delivered in a luxurious wooden gift box including a detailed-wooden Runabout boat miniature.

New design

Rose gold-plated stainless steel and brown patterns make the new Worldtimer, an elegant and sophisticated travelling watch. A dark brown design of the world map finely etched onto to the dial and the twenty-four cities on its outer rim make you wish for the next destination.

The date by hand at 6 o’clock seamlessly combines with the Worldtimer function without disrupting the esthetic of the watch. And even though the dial is busy with information, indexes on each hour make reading the time an easy and simple task.

Mechanics

The watchmakers at Frederique Constant have accomplished an extraordinary feat with the Classic Worldtimer Manufacture, which not only embellishes the timepiece but also is key to the user. They were able to create an in-house developed, produced and assembled caliber holding 139 parts and measuring 30mm in diameter, where the Worldtimer function is completely controlled by the crown. Thus, no additional push buttons or correctors were added which is esthetically more pleasant and simpler to use. Frederique Constant is the first brand to ever introduce such complication achievement.

The crown has three positions. The first lets the user manually wind the watch by turning the crown upwards; the second allows the user to set the date and city by turning the crown upwards and downwards, respectively; the third position allows the user to set the time by turning the crown downwards. This Worldtimer features two discs, one displaying 24h day-night indication and a second one listing the twenty-four cities. As a true Manufacture movement, this FC-718 caliber features Perlages and Côtes de Genève decoration, and this particular one holds a 42h power reserve.

Frederique Constant has been for many years involved in various forms of motorsports, especially with vintage car rallies, as the brand is a longstanding and faithful partner of the famous Austin Healey car brand. Lately we were very honoured to welcome 4 original Austin Healey cars from the Southern Counties Club to our Manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates. The four drivers came from the United-Kingdom with their beautifully conserved vintage Healey cars.

Driving for a tour of Switzerland and Italy, they were curious about the partnership of the watch manufacturer and the carmaker. They were impressed by our working facilities and capabilities. It was a perfect occasion for us to show to real Austin Healey enthusiasts our new Vintage Rally Healey Chronograph – and they loved it. Their passion for these vintage cars mirroring our passion for watches was intense.

Both carmaker and watchmaker have in common the engineering, the innovation and the artistic impression. Mechanical genius never ceases to excite and delight, especially when that marvel is a perfectly tuned engine in a fast-moving machine. Whilst beautifully crafted sports cars are an absolute fascination, so are timepieces.

Both are high-precision machines meant for ultimate use and pleasure. With this in mind, our designers created the Vintage Rally Healey chronograph, a timepiece with a motorsports heritage that combines timeless contemporary design with sporty elegance.

This timepiece is driven by the precise FC-397 automatic chronograph calibre. It has 25 jewels and a 46-hour power reserve. Its unique design is underlined with sub-dials that include a 30-minute counter at 3'oclock and small continuous seconds at 9 o'clock.
