Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet is pleased to present the [RE]Master02 Selfwinding – a tribute to an asymmetrical watch created by the Manufacture in 1960 (Model 5159BA). Following in the footsteps of [RE]Master01, launched in 2020 to reinterpret a chronograph from 1943, this new limited edition of 250 pieces features an asymmetrical 41mm rectangular case in the new 18-carat sand gold alloy, whose tone oscillates between white and pink gold. [RE]Master02 is enriched by a “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” parted dial, divided into twelve different triangles decorated with a linear satin finish that create unique effects of light and texture when assembled.

Combining vintage aesthetic with cutting-edge performance, this new reference is equipped with the Calibre 7129, an hour and minute movement. With this new model, [RE]Master establishes itself as a collection in its own right, continuing to offer contemporary interpretations of timepieces that defined their era.

Over the years, the Manufacture has used a wide variety of materials, colours and case forms, ranging from traditional geometries such as the circle, square and rectangle, to more unexpected trapezoidal or octagonal shapes.

This boundless creativity reflects the free spirit that Audemars Piguet has preserved and nurtured for generations. Like the remastering of music recordings, the [RE]Master collection, launched in 2020, creatively reinterprets the aesthetic codes of some of the Manufacture’s rarest timepieces, representative of their respective eras. In the 1960s, Audemars Piguet produced several models inspired by the Brutalist current, with angular geometric shapes devoid of ornamentation.

 It was also the golden age of asymmetrical watches for the Manufacture, with more than 30 models created between 1959 and 1963, most of which were produced in less than ten pieces. The 5159BA Model, launched in 1960 and produced in seven units, one of which is on display today at the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet, belongs to this generation of watches, with its asymmetrical 27,5 mm rectangular case in 18-carat yellow gold and a dial that breaks with the codes of classic watchmaking.

Today, the [RE]Master collection expands with a new 41mm reference in sand gold, combining contemporary watchmaking with historic design.

AN ASYMMETRICAL CASE IN SAND GOLD

[RE]Master02 features a case crafted in sand gold, a new 18-carat gold alloy whose shades vary between white and pink gold depending on the light and the movement of the wrist. Launched earlier this year on a Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked reference, this new material, which takes its name from sand dunes, is composed of gold, copper and palladium for a warm appearance. The asymmetrical case creates a strong visual impact with its many facets. While its rectangular shape is accentuated by sharp corners and extended by integrated lugs, the case also follows the slope of the sapphire crystal at 3 o’clock.

Its surface has been entirely brushed with a satin finish for a matt, “raw” look that contrasts with the polished contours of the dial. The satin finish of the sand gold required skill and dexterity to ensure that the geometric edges and corners of the case retained their sharpness.

The caseback, also crafted in sand gold, is engraved with “Limited Edition” and harmoniously echoes the dedicated asymmetrical oscillating weight in matching tones.

A PARTED DIAL

The dial of [RE]Master02 combines different geometric forms such as the rectangle and the triangle. The “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial, obtained by Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD), is made up of twelve triangles of different sizes and shapes, separated by galvanised sand-gold-toned partitions that meet at the centre. Each individually machined brass triangle is given a linear satin finish before being placed on a brass plate using minuscule legs. Once meticulously assembled by skilled craftspeople, all the parts create a visual effect that plays with the light and brings the dial to life.

To sit in harmony with the case and the diagonal lines of the dial, the hour and minute hands are crafted in 18-carat sand gold, as is the “Audemars Piguet” signature at 3 o’clock, obtained by galvanic growth. Both the hour-makers and the date indication have been omitted to give full expression to the geometric shapes and linear satin finish. Reading the time is facilitated by the diagonals that cross the dial.

The asymmetry of the case is accentuated by the sapphire crystal, which has a 15.8° bevel for greater visual impact. Two years of research and development went into the design of this bevelled crystal to guarantee water-resistance and meet Audemars Piguet’s quality requirements.

For aesthetic coherence, [RE]Master02 is mounted on an alligator leather strap in contrasting shades of blue that match the tone of the dial. Its elegant matt finish enhances the play of light.

AN EXTRA-THIN CALIBRE

[RE]Master02 houses the Calibre 7129, an extra-thin hour and minute movement without date indication that is based on the Calibre 7121, launched in 2022 on Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin models.

This 2.8mm thick movement produces more energy thanks to its new construction and its larger barrel, enabling the mechanism to achieve greater precision over a longer period of time.

The oscillating weight, mounted on ball bearings, is equipped with two reversers to ensure bidirectional winding. In addition, inertia blocks have been inserted into the thickness of the balance wheel to prevent aerodynamic friction from slowing it down.

In keeping with the Haute Horlogerie tradition, the Calibre 7129 features refined decorations such as Côtes de Genève, circular satin, snailing, sunray brushing, circular graining and polished angles, all of which can be admired through the sapphire caseback.

The latter also reveals the dedicated 22-carat gold oscillating weight, whose sand gold tone subtly echoes the colour of the case.

A COLLECTION IN ITS OWN RIGHT

Launched in 2020 to celebrate the opening of the new Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet in Le Brassus, the first model in the collection has a vintage aesthetic. Reinterpreting a rare chronograph from 1943, this limited edition of 500 pieces retains the aesthetic codes of the original timepiece with its two-tone steel and pink gold case enriched with a gold-toned dial.

 However, this remastered edition has a modern twist with a larger, 40mm case, repositioned counters enhancing legibility and, of course, a latest-generation chronograph movement, the Calibre 4409, whose refined finish is visible through the sapphire caseback. Combining the design of the 1940s with the latest watchmaking technologies, [RE]Master01 symbolises both the tradition and the pioneering spirit that pervades every Audemars Piguet watch.

[RE]Master02  is enriched by a “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial that combines different geometries. It is subdivided into twelve individually machined brass triangles that have been decorated with a linear satin finish before being placed on a brass plate with minuscule feet. The triangles are separated by sand gold partitions that facilitate the reading of the time.

Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet unveils a new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked limited edition in collaboration with brand and label Cactus Jack, founded by American hip hop artist Travis Scott. This 41 mm model is crafted in brown ceramic – a first for Audemars Piguet. The sapphire dial provides a glimpse of the openworked selfwinding perpetual calendar movement, Calibre 5135.

To celebrate this collaboration, a number of design elements refer to Cactus Jack’s graphics, while parts of the dial, including the moon phase indication, are endowed with a luminescent coating that glows blue or green in the dark in a nod to the brand’s aesthetic codes.

Combining classic complication with contemporary material, this limited edition illustrates Audemars Piguet’s free and daring spirit, as well as its ability to push back the boundaries of watchmaking and create strong links with fields of creative practice over the years.

THE ENCOUNTER OF SEVERAL UNIVERSES

Audemars Piguet has always fostered creative synergies with different universes, including sport, pop culture, art and entertainment. Thanks to its collaboration with personalities such as Jay-Z (2005) and LeBron James (2013), the Manufacture has strengthened its links to pop culture since the early 2000s. AP has since become one of the most quoted brands in rap songs.

Today, the Le Brassus watchmaker has teamed up with Cactus Jack to design this new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked “Cactus Jack” Limited Edition, which bears the aesthetic codes of the two brands.

NICKNAMED "THE CHOCOLATE AP" BY TRAVIS SCOTT

Audemars Piguet presents its first Royal Oak model in brown ceramic – a signature colour for Cactus Jack. This light and scratch resistant material can be admired on the watch’s 41 mm case and bracelet studs.

Ceramic is made from yttrium-stabilised Zirconium Oxide powder (Zr2O), which is combined with a binder and metal oxides that will give it its final chocolate colour once the ceramic has been sintered at over 1000°C. Achieving uniform colour is a delicate and crucial stage in the manufacturing process. Each component is then pre-polished and pre-satin-brushed before being finished by hand to reach the Manufacture’s trademark alternation of satin-brushed surfaces and polished chamfers.

 “The chocolate AP,” as Travis Scott likes to call it in his latest album, features white gold hexagonal screws as well as a sapphire dial revealing the openworked architecture of Calibre 5135. This movement combines rhodium-toned components with pink-gold-toned hues subtly echoing the thin circle surrounding the day, month and date subdials respectively located at 9, 12 and 3 o’clock.

 The subdials also play on transparency so as to reveal part of the movement. The hour, minute and counters hands, like the hour-markers inserted within the seconds scale, are crafted in gold and covered with brown PVD before being filled with a white luminescent material that turns blue in the dark. The red arrow-shaped hand indicating the week accentuates legibility in day light.

To celebrate this collaboration with Cactus Jack, numerous design elements reference the brand’s graphics. The Audemars Piguet Design team has specially designed the typography of the calendar and week indications based on Travis Scott’s hand-drawn model. Even the hand of the day subdial takes on the shape of the brand’s logo. But, the most visible nod is the design of the moon phase at 6 o’clock.

The usual representation of Earth’s natural satellite has been replaced by Cactus Jack’s emblematic smiley face with its mouth sewn shut, whose luminescent coating glows blue in the dark. In contrast, the other calendar indications, with the exception of the week indication, are endowed with a luminescent material that turns green at night for a unique luminous effect.

A new textured calfskin leather strap makes its debut for the occasion, while the pink gold folding clasp is engraved with the signatures of “Audemars Piguet” and “Travis Scott”. Lastly, the caseback is engraved with “Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar,” “Limited Edition of 200 Pieces” and “Utopia is a state of mind” in reference to Travis Scott’s latest album. This mention also appears printed on one of the strap’s mobile loops.

AN OSCILLATING WEIGHT SIGNED “CACTUS JACK”

The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked “Cactus Jack” Limited Edition is powered by the selfwinding Calibre 5135. The movement automatically takes into account the number of days in the month and correctly displays the prevailing date even in leap years. Assuming the watch is kept fully wound, the date will not require manual correction until 2100, at which point it will need to be adjusted in order to stay in line with the Gregorian calendar.*

The brown ceramic and sapphire caseback reveals the refined decorations adorning the movement including circular satin, satin brushing, sandblasting, sunray brushing and polished chamfers. The stamped openworked 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight is finished with satin brushing and polished chamfers. It is also engraved with the double “Audemars Piguet” and “Cactus Jack” signatures. The Cactus Jack logo, which appears in the centre of the oscillating weight, brings the final touch to this collaboration at the crossroads of diverse universes.

* The Gregorian calendar omits three leap years every 400 years to remain in line with solar time. This is achieved by omitting February 29 in the century years which are divisible by 100, but not by 400. As a result, 2100 will not be a leap year and perpetual calendar mechanisms will have to be moved forward by one day.

  AUDEMARS PIGUET UNVEILS ITS FIRST 34 MM ROYAL OAK SELFWINDING IN WHITE CERAMIC

The Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet is delighted to present its first 34 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding model crafted entirely in white ceramic.

Faithful to the design of the black ceramic model (77350CE) presented in 2021, this variation is distinguished by an immaculate white colour that is contrasted with touches of pink gold on the screws, hands, hour-markers, caseback and oscillating weight. Sold exclusively in Audemars Piguet boutiques, this new refined and light reference will please slimmer wrists.

 

WHEN SOBRIETY AND LIGHTNESS JOIN FORCES

In line with the timepieces launched in 2021 and 2022, this 34 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding model features a monochrome aesthetic that is enriched with pink gold details.

Taking advantage of the design evolution introduced in 2022 for the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary, the dial features a Grand Tapisserie motif that gives it a refined glow. This shimmer is further enhanced by pink gold details on the luminescent hour-markers and hands as well as on the applied Audemars Piguet signature that is created by galvanic growth.

Pink gold is also present around the edge of the sapphire caseback, through which a pink gold oscillating weight can be admired. In contrast, the steel folding clasp is enriched with a black colour achieved thanks to a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) treatment.

A TECHNICAL CHALLENGE

Harder than black ceramic, the white variant has pushed the technical limits of Audemars Piguet’s know-how for the case and bracelet to welcome the Manufacture’s distinctive alternation of satin-finishing and polished chamfers.

The brilliance of the white ceramic is highlighted by eight hexagonal screws, especially crafted in 18-carat pink gold, which securely attach the bezel to the case while providing a subtle colour detail. Each of the screws has also been meticulously hand-finished.

Following the new aesthetic codes inaugurated last year, the ceramic bracelet features invisible pins that are directly integrated into the studs to connect them to the links.

A DEDICATED MOVEMENT

The selfwinding Calibre 5800 was designed specifically for the Royal Oak 34 mm collection that was unveiled in 2020. It offers a 50-hour power reserve and water resistance to a depth of 50 metres.

The sapphire caseback reveals parts of the mechanism’s components and the dedicated 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight. In keeping with tradition, the movement features high-end decorations such as Côtes de Genève, circular graining, satin and sunray finishes.
