Vincent Deprez – Scientific Tourbillon Edition

Vincent DeprezScientific Tourbillon Blue Grand Feu Enamel Dial Steel and Titanium 39mm Edition 2026

 Traditional handmade watchmaking
Tourbillon classique scientifique Édition

This year, as a continuation of the Classical Tourbillon series, Vincent Deprez presents a new interpretation of this calibre: a more scientific, more technical, and distinctly contemporary vision of his Geneva-made tourbillon.

Handcrafted in his workshop, this new timepiece retains the architecture of the original movement while exploring an aesthetic language inspired by scientific instruments and technical watches of the twentieth century. It represents an approach in which legibility, mechanical construction and restraint become the central elements of the creation. Ten examples will be produced in this new configuration, bringing the total production of the Classical Tourbillon series to twenty pieces, including subscription watches.

The Dial - The Depth of Grand Feu Enamel

The dial of the Scientific Tourbillon is crafted in deep midnight-blue grand feu enamel.

Multiple layers of enamel are successively applied and fired to achieve exceptional depth and richness of colour, revealing subtle variations according to the light.

The dial features a mirror-polished applied steel chapter ring together with a detailed minute track, reinforcing the instrumental and scientific character of the piece.

Each dial is handcrafted by Vincent Deprez himself using traditional techniques requiring many hours of work and multiple firings.

The Case - A Contemporary Construction

The 39 mm case combines polished and satin-finished surfaces in 316L stainless steel, emphasizing the volumes and contrasts of the watch.

It is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal and a Grade 5 titanium caseback designed to integrate directly into the case middle. The caseback is secured through the lugs, resulting in a completely flat profile and a deliberately clean visual continuity.

The lug width measures 20 mm, while the buckle width is reduced to 16 mm in order to preserve the overall balance of the watch.

The Movement - Fully Handcrafted Construction

The vast majority of the movement components are manufactured in Deprez's workshop using traditional machine tools.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The bridges, mainplate and selected case components are produced using a pantograph engraving machine. The pivots and wheels are machined on a Schaublin 102 lathe, while a conventional milling machine is used to manufacture numerous additional components.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This deliberately artisanal approach allows complete control over the manufacturing process while preserving a high degree of freedom in the execution of both components and finishes.

The movement operates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, while the tourbillon cage completes one full rotation every 60 seconds.

The Finishes - The Hand of the Craftsman

All movement decorations are executed entirely by hand according to traditional haute horlogerie techniques.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Manual graining, anglage, black polishing and satin finishing are individually applied to each component in order to reveal the material and mechanical architecture of the calibre.

The colour palette has been intentionally reduced to the warm grey tones of natural German silver and mirrorpolished steel, creating a restrained and technical monochromatic environment in which light becomes an essential element of visual appreciation.

Each watch is entirely crafted by Vincent Deprez himself in his workshop, from the dial and movement to the finishing and final assembly.

Handmade in Geneva, it combines a deep midnight-blue grand feu enamel dial, a manually wound artisanal tourbillon movement, and finishing executed according to the finest traditions of haute horlogerie. This edition is limited to 10 pieces.

About Vincent Deprez

Vincent Deprez living near Geneva. From childhood he always liked working with his hands and he first thought about being a watchmaker when he was just 12 years old. Two years later, his watchmaking dream turned into a passion after doing a school work experience week at Vacheron Constantin. This led him to a watchmaking apprenticeship with Vacheron Constantin at the horologically precocious age of 15 years.

After ten years at Vacheron Constantin working in restoration, regulation, assembly, and ultra-thin watches, Vincent moved to Patek Philippe where he worked in the restoration department. A yearning to make his own watch grew ever stronger, and in 2017 he left Patek Philippe to set up his own atelier and begin working on making his own tourbillon. With his passion for traditional watchmaking, Vincent decided at the outset that he would make handmade watches using traditional tools.

KV21 TONNEAU

Guided by a constant pursuit of technical innovation, excellence, and respect for tradition, the Voutilainen workshop presents the new KV21 Tonneau. Unveiled in limited editions, the timepiece features an entirely new tonneau-shaped case with harmonious proportions and a contemporary design.

The newly designed KV21 Tonneau’s case exudes perfectly balanced proportions, combining elegance and comfort on the wrist. Its short, teardrop-shaped lugs enhance the ergonomic fit, while the interplay of polished parts and subtle satin finishing emphasizes the purity of its lines.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The timepiece is driven by the new in-house caliber KV21. Inspired by the KV20 movement, it has been developed to integrate complications requiring the entire surface of the main plate on the dial side, without significantly affecting the movement’s thickness. To achieve this, the escapement was subtly modified while preserving its original functioning. Following in the footsteps of the renowned VINGT-8, this caliber is destined to leave its mark on Voutilainen’s iconic timepieces.

The mechanism has been designed, built, fabricated, hand-finished and assembled entirely within the Voutilainen workshop with the utmost precision, care, and passion. It features a very large balance wheel crafted in-house, enabling precise regulation of the watch within strict tolerances.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

dditionally, a rare and unique balance-spring system has been used. The exterior of the spring has a typical Phillips overcoil, while the internal curve uses the little-known Grossmann curve further increasing accuracy.

The caliber KV21 is particularly remarkable due to its two escapement wheels, which provide a direct impulse to the balance through the roller/jewel. This innovative construction improves efficiency by requiring less energy than the Swiss lever escapement and allows for notable benefits, for everyday use, such as longevity, stability and a longer power reserve.

The case back reveals a captivating view of the caliber KV21’s intricacies that is meticulously finished to the highest standards by the expert artisans of the Voutilainen workshop. The surfaces of pinions and wheels are completely flat and polished with exceptionally uniform tolerances. The main plate and bridges, made from German-silver, are decorated by hand to achieve the utmost levels of surface finish. Screws and all steel parts are also finished and polished by hand.

The dial presents various hand-guilloché patterns, a well-known signature of Voutilainen’s meticulous savoir-faire. It can be personalized according to the owner’s preference, allowing the timepiece to become a unique piece. The interplay of textures and light brings the watch to life, reflecting the patience, passion, and skills invested in every detail, a true work of art.

To complete the design, the KV21 Tonneau is paired with an elegant hand-sewn strap.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In 2024, Jaeger-LeCoultre created the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual, uniting two lines of expertise in high-precision timekeeping – the Duometre concept and a novel form of multi-axis tourbillon – to create Calibre 388. Now, it reinterprets this highly sophisticated perpetual calendar timepiece in platinum, with a new case and matching bracelet complemented by a grey dial. It will be produced in a limited and numbered edition of 20 pieces.

A MONOCHROMATIC PALETTE CREATES AESTHETIC HARMONY

Crafted in platinum for this new model, the 44 mm Duometre case is a contemporary interpretation of the savonette pocket watches created by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the 19th-century. Its rounded contours, amplified by the convex crystal, polished bezel and deeply notched winding crown are highly tactile as well as visually appealing. The apparent simplicity of the case belies its complexity: it comprises 40 separate parts and the lugs are screwed rather than integrated, to enable a mixture of polished, brushed and micro-blasted surfaces that play with shadows and reflections as every movement of the wrist captures the light differently.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Created specifically for this reinterpretation of the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual, the new platinum 950 bracelet combines technical sophistication with refined elegance. Its supple five-row construction ensures exceptional comfort on the wrist, while alternating brushed and polished finishes echo the meticulous finishing of the case. Inspired by the vintage design codes of the Duometre collection, the bracelet’s fluid integration enhances the distinctive rounded silhouette of the case. Each link is individually domed along the 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock axis – subtly recalling the curvature of the lugs – and carefully brushed and bevelled on both sides to create a sophisticated interplay of light.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Harmonising with the cool silvery tones of the platinum case and bracelet, the new all-grey dial is finished in a mix of opaline, brushed and azuré surfaces, creating subtle contrasts between the different indications. The curving platinum bridge that separates the displays from the tourbillon aperture is finished with microblasting and bevelling. In contrast, the polished hands, applied hour markers and frames surrounding the date display create a subtle interplay of light.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Directly expressing the underlying Duometre mechanism, with its two barrels and gear trains, the symmetrical dial layout of the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual forms a triangle, with its apex defined by the grande date display at 3 o’clock.  The two power reserves sit above and below the time display. The ‘base’ of the triangle is formed by the display of moon-phases and days in the upper sector, and the perpetual calendar’s months and years in the lower part.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

On the left-hand side of the dial, the triple-axis tourbillon performs its ‘spinning top’ rotation and a sapphire crystal window in the side of the case offers another view of its mechanical dance. The tourbillon is set above a background of deep blue lacquer representing a starry sky and, as it spins, red triangles set on the third cage indicate 20-second intervals, which are marked on a sapphire crystal arc.

BREAKTHROUGHS IN PRECISION
THE HELIOTOURBILLON AND THE DUOMETRE CONCEPT

Incorporating Jaeger-LeCoultre’s eight decades of accumulated expertise in the tourbillon regulating mechanism, Calibre 388 features a distinctive tourbillon construction that spins on three axes, enhancing chronometry and creating a kinematic effect that resembles a spinning top.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As it spins on a single axis, the traditional tourbillon does not compensate for the effects of gravity in all positions, which led the Manufacture’s engineers to develop different configurations, including the signature dual-axis Gyrotourbillon. The Heliotourbillon takes this thinking further, with three titanium cages rotating on three axes and a cylindrical hairspring. The first cage is set at a 90-degree angle to the balance wheel and the second cage is set at 90 degrees to the first. Together, these two cages are driven and constrained by an axis tilted at 40 degrees which makes a full rotation in 30 seconds. The third cage is perpendicular to the second and makes a full rotation in 60 seconds.  Supported on ceramic ball bearings to minimise friction, the tourbillon consists of 163 components and weighs less than 0.7 grams.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Before Jaeger-LeCoultre developed the Duometre concept, adding complications to a watch movement seemed irreconcilable with accurate timekeeping. That’s because the fundamental requirement of precise timekeeping is that the power supply from the barrel to the escapement should never vary. However, a complication must draw on the power supply to operate, thus interrupting that steady flow and jeopardising precision.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Introduced in 2007, the patented Duometre mechanism features two barrels and two separate gear trains housed in a single calibre and linked to a single regulating organ. One gear train powers the time indications and the other drives all additional functions. By separating the power supply in this way, the Duometre mechanism guarantees an exceptionally high degree of operating accuracy.

A PERPETUAL CALENDAR WITH A GRANDE DATE DISPLAY

Complementing the sophistication of the tourbillon and Duometre mechanisms, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers integrated a perpetual calendar into Calibre 388. Automatically adjusting for months of different lengths and for leap years, it needs no manual correction until 2100 and subsequently only in centenary years that are not also leap years.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The year indication shows the last digit of a leap year in red – a Jaeger-LeCoultre patent. Unusually, in Calibre 388 the hours and minutes can be set either backwards or forwards without compromising the perpetual calendar. Normally, a perpetual calendar is set through the passing of time (the hour and minute hands), so adjusting the time backwards desynchronises and can damage the calendar mechanism. Calibre 388 also includes a Grande Date display: a classical yet rare complication sought-after by watch connoisseurs, and a moon-phase indication accurate to 122 years.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Calibre 388 features fine decoration, even on components that are not visible through the sapphire crystal caseback: brushed surfaces contrast with perlage; edges are hand-bevelled and polished; sunrayed Geneva stripes (côtes de Genève soleillées) radiate seamlessly across the expanse of the bridges. Like all Jaeger-LeCoultre movements, Calibre 388 was conceived, designed, produced, assembled and finished within the Manufacture.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Complex, highly innovative and aesthetically refined, the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual in platinum epitomises Jaeger-LeCoultre’s boundless creativity and its technical sophistication represents a new achievement in the Maison’s quest for timekeeping precision.
