« There is no greater than Maximus »

No other name could be better suited than "MAXIMUS" to designate this exceptional model of KERBEDANZ; the precision of the mechanical movement is ensured by the largest "tourbillon" for wristwatch of the world.

In ancient Rome, the title of "Maximus" was given to the high priest at the head of the College of Pontiffs. The Pontiffs were priests united in a college, charged with the establishment of the calendar of the good and bad days in the heart of the Roman public religion, consecrating the edifices and naming the other priests. This title was then systematically awarded to all Roman emperors during the imperial period following the reign of Augustus.

As a result, "Maximus" had become the key title for expressing greatness in all its splendor. And Circus Maximus, a Roman monument, the most gigantic known at that time, became the expression of this greatness.

This is the largest arena in Roman antiquity, known as the «Circus Maximus ", located between the Palatine and the Aventine. Mainly intended for horse or chariot races, Circus Maximus was built at the beginning of the 6th century BC by the Etruscan king Tarquin the Elder.

Originally, the dimensions of the arena were 370 meters long by 83 wide. Subsequently, it was enlarged successively by Cesar, Claudius and Nero, then by Caracalla and Aurelian, so that in the 4th century AD the track was 621 meters long by 118 wide and it is estimated that more than 150 '000 spectators could take their seats. The Circus Maximus remains to this day the largest sports arena that the world has known.

During Roman Antiquity the terms Magnus and Maximus were also used as names or forenames by the Romans or the populations integrated into the Roman Empire. Thus, under the name of Magnus Maximus or Maximus, a Gallo-Roman military leader of the 4th century was proclaimed "Augustus" (that is to say, Emperor) by his troops, Took possession of Gaul and Spain, and finally took Rome in 387.

Muhle-Glashutte – 29er Tag/Datum Steel

Mühle-GlashütteFunctional 29er Tag/Datum Steel

Perfect Balance: the 29er Tag/Datum

While the wind howls and the waves crash, the new 29er Tag/Datum from Mühle-Glashütte stays cool and calm, perfectly equipped to face the elements with its elegant design and athletic heart.

Be it when sailing the 29er dinghy or creating its wristwatch counterpart, the new 29er Tag/Datum, it’s all about achieving the perfect balance. When the wind tugs at the sail at full force and crew members have to throw their entire weight into leaning out on the trapeze, the right balance is the deciding factor between winning or sinking. When designing the 29er Tag/Datum, achieving a harmonious balance between the watch’s date and weekday displays was just as critical for the watch designers at Mühle-Glashütte, albeit on dry land.

With Thilo Mühle at the helm, the company’s very own design team considered a wide variety of different approaches before deciding on the ideal solution. Just like its sibling, the 29er Big, the date display of the 29er Tag/Datum was placed in the three o’clock position, directly opposite the watch’s practical weekday display in the nine o’clock position. This arrangement enables the displays to perfectly highlight the straightforward character that defines Mühle’s range of 29er models.

Another design decision focused on the colours of this new Mühle watch, which is taking to the water with a special palette thanks to its metallic sand-coloured flange. This attractive shade provides the 29er Tag/Datum with harmony with a capital H by perfectly complementing the transition from its titanium-grey face to its silver stainless steel case and giving the watch its own special hint of elegance. This elegant look is provided with even more sophistication by the applied indices on the face of the 29er, which is extremely minimalistic given that its minute graduation featuring luminescent hour markers and small minute numerals, is actually located on the flange.

Despite its stunning appearance, this Mühle watch is a passionate athlete through and through. Its high-quality stainless steel case boasts a pressure resistance of up to 10 bars and wearers who choose to purchase its optional stainless steel strap can even take their 29er Tag/Datum out for a swim. With its scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and side protection element for its screw-in crown, this Mühle watch is also perfectly equipped to be the ideal time-measuring companion for everyday use, a fact that is additionally underlined by its precise movement.

A top-quality watch needs a top-quality movement and this is precisely why the 29er Tag/Datum is fitted with a SW 220-1 Mühle version movement featuring both the company’s own rotor and its patented particularly shockproof woodpecker neck regulation. Once all of its components have been carefully finished and assembled, the movement is put to the test in six different positions and regulated to achieve a precision of between 0 and a maximum of +8 seconds per day. This precision target forms the heart of Mühle’s very own regulation standards, which comply with the German chronometer standard and help to ensure that the watch never runs slow. After all, the ultimate priority at Mühle-Glashütte is making sure that its watch wearers are never too late because of their time measuring instruments.
