Rudis Sylva – RS 16 Harmonious Oscillator

Rudis SylvaRS 16 Harmonious Oscillator 2016

Rudis Sylva RS 16 Harmonious Oscillator
pre-selected in the Tourbillon category GPHG 2016

When the Harmonious Oscillator was unveiled at Baselworld 2009, there were watchmakers present who thought this invention to be important in the history of timekeeping.

The reason is clear: the Harmonious Oscillator represents a horological revolution. In permanent opposition, its toothed balance wheels instantly minimize the effects of gravity when the watch is in the vertical position. The wheels are interlinked, ensuring a more stable amplitude for higher precision.

The Harmonious Oscillator is an embodiment of technical and artistic brilliance with mesmerizing micro engineering complemented by the finest hand-engraving, enameling, guilloche, and scintillating anglage.

The main plate features a handcrafted guilloche pattern of tapering pyramids, while the bridges of the dual balance regulator feature hand-crafted anglage with no fewer than 40 incredibly demanding internal angles; 28 of which are executed in ultra-strong and difficult-to-work titanium. Both the movement and the case back are engraved by hand, with the case back also featuring sublime high-fire enamel.

The distinctive design of the new RS 16 with its high-domed sapphire crystal is by star watch designer Eric Giroud.

The winner will be announced on November 10.

The red gold RS 16 retails for CHF 250,000 (excluding shipping and taxes).

ORIS – BC3 Advanced Day DateAviation

ORISAVIATION BC3 Advanced Day Date Gunmetal Grey Steel NEW

Grey matter

Oris’s utilitarian BC3 pilot’s watch returns with a gunmetal
grey finish

Oris has given its legendary BC3 pilot’s watch a sporty new look for 2016. Part of the Oris collection since 1999, the BC3 is one of a long line of historically important aviation pieces made by the independent Swiss company that goes back to the original Big Crown of 1938. The new BC3 brings the Oris pilot’s watch story right up to date.

The flagship piece in the new line-up is the BC3 Advanced Day Date with a stealthy gunmetal grey PVD-coated stainless steel case. It comes on either a beige textile or black rubber strap.

The dial is grey with special ‘light old radium’ Super-LumiNova® hour markers. The same material has been used to fill the white hour and minute hands, while the second hand is black with a white tip. This package has been carefully considered by Oris’s designers to create a watch that’s clearly legible both during the day and at night, in keeping with the traditions of the pilot’s watch’s practical aesthetic.

Much of the watch’s robust look comes from the protectors that flank the screw-in crown. The watch is water-resistant to 10 bar/100 metres, even with its glass case back, which provides a view of Oris’s automatic Calibre 735 and its trademark Red Rotor.

The movement provides the watch with day and date indication in two windows stacked at 6 o’clock like an instrument panel in an aircraft cockpit.

As well as the gunmetal grey version, the new BC3 Advanced Day Date is also available in steel with a striking blue dial, or in below-the-radar black-DLC-coated steel with a black dial.

Over the last two decades, Oris’s BC3 has become one of the most recognisable pilot’s watches on the market, thanks to its functional, fit-for-purpose aesthetic and reliability under pressure. The additions to the BC3 Advanced Day Date collection pick up on these themes and ready the model for the future. The watch is available from now, priced CHF 1,400.
