ORIS – BC3 Advanced Day DateAviation

ORISAVIATION BC3 Advanced Day Date Gunmetal Grey Steel NEW

Grey matter

Oris’s utilitarian BC3 pilot’s watch returns with a gunmetal
grey finish

Oris has given its legendary BC3 pilot’s watch a sporty new look for 2016. Part of the Oris collection since 1999, the BC3 is one of a long line of historically important aviation pieces made by the independent Swiss company that goes back to the original Big Crown of 1938. The new BC3 brings the Oris pilot’s watch story right up to date.

The flagship piece in the new line-up is the BC3 Advanced Day Date with a stealthy gunmetal grey PVD-coated stainless steel case. It comes on either a beige textile or black rubber strap.

The dial is grey with special ‘light old radium’ Super-LumiNova® hour markers. The same material has been used to fill the white hour and minute hands, while the second hand is black with a white tip. This package has been carefully considered by Oris’s designers to create a watch that’s clearly legible both during the day and at night, in keeping with the traditions of the pilot’s watch’s practical aesthetic.

Much of the watch’s robust look comes from the protectors that flank the screw-in crown. The watch is water-resistant to 10 bar/100 metres, even with its glass case back, which provides a view of Oris’s automatic Calibre 735 and its trademark Red Rotor.

The movement provides the watch with day and date indication in two windows stacked at 6 o’clock like an instrument panel in an aircraft cockpit.

As well as the gunmetal grey version, the new BC3 Advanced Day Date is also available in steel with a striking blue dial, or in below-the-radar black-DLC-coated steel with a black dial.

The new Oris BC3 Advanced Day Date features a stainless steel case with gunmetal grey PVD coating

Over the last two decades, Oris’s BC3 has become one of the most recognisable pilot’s watches on the market, thanks to its functional, fit-for-purpose aesthetic and reliability under pressure. The additions to the BC3 Advanced Day Date collection pick up on these themes and ready the model for the future. The watch is available from now, priced CHF 1,400.

BLANCPAIN VILLERET Metiers d'Art Shakudō Ganesh Red Gold 45 Unique piece NEW

Artistic crafts by Blancpain

Blancpain’s Métiers d’Art studio located in the Vallée de Joux has created a new one-of-a-kind timepiece bearing the image of Ganesh.

Blancpain’s award winning in-house Métiers d’Art studio is renowned for its mastery of a wide range of artistic crafts, including fine engraving, enameling in multiple forms such as painting, champlevé and cloisonné, along with damascening, shakudō, and more. Its latest creation brings together fine engraving, damascening and shakudō in a one-of-a-kind creation bearing the image of Ganesh. It reprises – albeit with an entirely new interpretation – the Ganesh theme featured in the watch that won the Artistic Crafts prize in the 2015 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

The black patina of the dial is created using the shakudō technique. Blancpain’s artisans delicately treat the surface multiple times to achieve the final subtle black shades that mark this art form which was originally developed for the decoration of swords and jewelry. Blancpain is the only watch house that has mastered this time-honored motif. The dial base presents another art form, damascening, whose application to watchmaking is also exclusive to Blancpain. The fine designs are hand-carved into the surface of the dial, following which gold is hammered into the resulting troughs. The images themselves are fine gold hand engravings that are held in place without the use of adhesives.

The watch itself is part of Blancpain’s Villeret Collection. Its 45 mm red gold case with Blancpain’s signature double-stepped bezel houses hand-wound in-house Caliber 15B. The transparent case-back showcases the movement finishing featuring finely hand-applied Côtes de Genève along with beveling and circular graining.

The launch of this exceptional one-of-a-kind piece coincides with the Ganesh Festival in India, which is now recognized around the world.
